Summary of the role
The College wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to work on the INCLUDE study https://includeproject.org.uk/ a rapid response initiative examining the social and psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people living with dementia and their family carers funded by ESRC. The INCLUDE study aims to identify and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and life under physical distancing for people with dementia and carers, and to produce guidance and resources in various formats for all relevant stakeholders. This seven-month, full-time post is available immediately but no later than 1st September 2020. The successful applicant will conduct structured interviews with people with dementia and their carers via telephone or internet exploring their experience during the COVID-19 crisis.
The post-holder will contact people with dementia and carers who have previously been interviewed for the IDEAL (Improving the experience of dementia and enhancing active life) longitudinal cohort study, invite them to participate in INCLUDE, take informed consent, conduct interviews which include a mixture of standardised and open-ended questions, and enter data into an online data capture system. The post-holder will work as part of a small team and will contribute to summarising and reporting quantitative data and coding responses to the open-ended questions.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to engage and communicate effectively with people who have dementia and their family carers, taking a supportive and empathic approach and demonstrating patience with those who find communication challenging. The post-holder will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, and communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically.
Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. A Master’s level qualification would be an advantage. The applicant will have good IT skills and ability to use various platforms to communicate with participants and to collect, store and analyse data. Experience of collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data would be advantageous. The applicant will be able to work well as part of a team focused on tight targets.
