About this event

The UK Committee on Climate Change has forecast that the net costs of reaching net zero will be less than 1% of GDP a year. For Yorkshire and Humber this equates to roughly £1.5bn a year. This is of course a massive amount of money – but investing less than 1% of our income to secure a long-term future for the region and a liveable planet for our children and grandchildren should be seen as good value.

This session will explore the steps the region can take to mobilise finance and investment for action on nature and climate in ways that support a just transition. We will look at the roles of a wide range of opportunities: from large-scale investment banking to central funding and community bonds.

This is one session of a series running over the next 18 months. Each session will identify practicable next steps and ambitious actions to be taken in the region. The outputs will be consulted on widely, will feed into our regional and national policy initiatives and will piece together to create a picture of progress in the region.
