Summer Reading Challenge
 Join our intrepid Gadgeteers on an adventure this summer with this years’
summer reading challenge for children aged 4 to 12. Under 4s can join the
mini challenge, collecting stickers and a certificate.
Read up to 6 books collecting stickers and prize incentives on the way. You will receive a Gadgeteer certificate and medal for completing the challenge.
Joining is easy:
Step 1. Register at the Library Desk where you will be given a Gadgeteer Reading Wallet
Step 2. Choose your books. You can also choose e audio books and ebooks.
Step 3. For every stage you get to you will receive the following prizes:
Books 1 and 2: stickers and paper chain.
Books 3 and 4: stickers and bookmark.
Books 5 and 6: stickers, Gadgeteers pencil and medal.
Everyone receives a Gadgeteers certificate.
Our libraries will be hosting a fantastic range of STEAM and science focused events and activities including slime making, creating models on a 3D Printer,
arts, and crafts and much much more.

Did you Eat Sunshine for Breakfast: Award winning author Michael Holland takes you on an amazing journey about the world of plants. Age: 7 Plus
 Lambeth libraries now has a collection of Giant Print books in fonts 24 and 36 that can be borrowed by children with visual impairments. The main collection is at Clapham Library, with a smaller one at Tate South Lambeth Library. Books can be ordered from and collected from your local branch. An exhibition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of Stockwell First World War Memorial, including a unique map charting the addresses of hundreds of the 574 men listed on the name panels. The impressive tower, unveiled on 3 May 1922, was a project to permanently record the names of hundreds of men from within half a mile radius of the memorial, who died as a result of the war. The clock was paid for by a grief-stricken doctor whose only son was lost at the Battle of the Somme.
Presented by the Friends of Stockwell War Memorial & Gardens, the exhibition also covers the other buildings on the site: the Second World War rotunda, deep-level air raid shelter, and the Bronze Woman statue.

An exhibition curated by Christiane Felber. After the reorganisation of local government in 1965, Lambeth’s new Department of Architecture and Planning, under the leadership of Ted Hollamby, set about building a ‘New Jerusalem’ for the borough of Lambeth. This exhibition offers an overview of the time, with examples of the glorious successes and the abject failures and includes high-rise towers, large estates, rehabilitation and infill, and low-rise high-density housing, illustrated by historic and recent photographs. |

Join the Radical Readers reading group to discuss The Death of Comrade President by Alain Mabanckou. A poignant and riotous tale of family and revolution in postcolonial Africa, from the winner of the French Voices grand prize and finalist for the Man Booker International Prize.
 Durning, Clapham, Brixton, West Norwood, Streatham, Minet and Carnegie libraries will be running employment skills courses to help people into work. These will be short four week taster sessions and we will be signposting those that need extra help or a longer course onto further support.
For those that need help with a device or data to help them with job searching, we will soon be running an iPad loan project aimed at people who do not currently have a device for job searching. If you would like to borrow an iPad, please contact Brixton, Streatham, Clapham, Durning, South Lambeth, West Norwood and Minet libraries to register your interest.
 We are running ESOL classes at several libraries. Classes will be taking place at Brixton, Clapham, Streatham, West Norwood, Carnegie, Minet, Durning and Tate South Lambeth libraries. Please contact the Libraries directly to reserve a place.

StoryTrails is coming to Brixton Library this summer! A one-of-a-kind experience where untold stories from the past are brought to life through augmented and virtual reality and with the voices of the local community. As the UK’s largest immersive storytelling project, it will change the way we tell stories about ourselves and inspire a conversation about who we are and where we are going.
Come down to Brixton Library in September to discover a range of exciting augmented and virtual reality experiences for all the family to enjoy.

Curated by Tony Fairweather, HOME is a nostalgic look back at the well-remembered homes of the Windrush Generation. A recreation of the iconic Caribbean front room, kitchen and bedroom, this exhibition showcases many family favourites, from the Blue Spot Gramophone to the eclectic ornaments displayed in glass cabinets.
We welcome all audiences to immerse themselves in the social history of the Windrush Generation and learn about the cultural significance of artefacts from the era.
