green libraries

In early August we were delighted to learn that Lambeth Libraries were one of 15 authorities that had been successful in getting an award from the Green Libraries Grant Fund. Our project, which will run until the end of October, will show how an environmentally friendly lifestyle can also help save you money.

The main launch event will be at West Norwood Library on 17 September, 2pm. There will be clothes swap events at Durning, Brixton, Clapham and Tate South Lambeth (see below). Other activities planned are repair cafes, drop off points for old tech devices, loan of thermal imaging cameras, a seed bank, improved green spaces around our libraries, cycling and retrofit workshops, advice on recycling and avoiding food waste and a collection of books on how to be environmentally friendly and save money. Visit our website for further details on Lambeth Libraries and Environmental savings.

Steve Wilde: Dante’s Car Park

Steve Wilde

Wednesday 14 to 25 September
Brixton Library. SW2 1JQ

Steve Wilde is a local, self-taught artist. He previously photographed walls that accidentally looked like abstract paintings but the rundown areas where these could be found have now been gentrified and replaced with bland glass buildings so the only thing to do was to paint his own!

'Dante's Car Park' was borne out of reading Gareth E Rees' (some might say niche) book Car Park Life [2019 Influx Press] which led to the idea of relocating Dante's 9 circles of hell to a multi-storey car park. So if we picture Dante and Virgil circling around, looking for somewhere to park, in a battered Fiat 500 who do we think they might encounter these days?

Accompanying the nine paintings that these thoughts inspired are other works.
