A strong earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.5 hit Peru-Brazil border region at 00:55 UTC on June 8, 2022. The agency is reporting a depth of 621.9 km (386 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.5 at a depth of 612 km (380 miles).

The epicenter was located 112 km (69.6 miles) SSW of Tarauacá and 137.6 km (85.5 miles) SW of Feijó, Brazil.

There are about 30 000 people living within 100 km (62 miles).

288 000 people are estimated to have felt weak shaking.

The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.

Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are highly vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some resistant structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are mud wall and reinforced/confined masonry construction.
