Heavy rainfall in the Democratic Republic of Congo during early December has caused deadly flooding in Mbanza-Ngungu, leaving at least 18 fatalities.

On December 1, at least 13 deaths were reported after overnight heavy rains triggered floods. A day after, December 2, five more fatalities were confirmed, bringing the death toll to 18. The casualties were mostly children.

Among the areas affected were Zanga and Nsona Nkulu in the Noki and Disengomoka Districts. Several houses were also damaged,  including three houses that completely collapsed.

According to local reports, provincial minster of interior Nestor Mandiangu visited the affected site to assist the victims' families and help with the burial.
