Floods and landslides claim 4 lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Heavy rainfall has been affecting the South Kivu Province, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo since November 13, 2022. The event triggered floods, landslides, and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.
As of November 16, four people have lost their lives and several people were injured.1
A landslide hit Bunyakiri Town in Kalehe Territory, northern South Kivu Province destroying an unknown number of homes.
In addition, three people died, one person has been injured and one house has been destroyed following a wall collapse due to the heavy rainfall in Bukavu City, northern South Kivu Province.
Over the next 48 hours, very heavy rainfall is forecast over the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, in particular over the already affected South Kivu Province.
