An oil spill after a crash on the A63 is causing long delays to motorists' journeys through Hull this morning.

Two articulated lorries are reported to have collided on the A63 Eastbound where it meets the A1165 Great Union Street. The crash has resulted in an oil spillage and the road to is partially blocked.

The traffic monitoring site Inrix stated at 8.32am: "A63 Roger Millward Way partially blocked long delays, queueing traffic due to accident, two articulated lorries involved and oil spillage at A1165 Great Union Street (Roger Millward Way roundabout).

"Congestion to Priory Way junction at Hessle. On the roundabout. Travel time is around 30 minutes."

National Highways expects 'normal traffic conditions' to resume shortly

With all lanes now open again, the traffic queue is improving and in an update, National Highways are expecting "normal traffic conditions" to resume shortly.

National Highways have said: "Normal traffic conditions are expected between 10:00 and 10:15 on 27 May 2022.

"There are currently delays of 10 minutes against expected traffic."

At least one of the lorries involved in the collision before 7am this morning which has caused the "severe delays" on the A63 Eastbound remained at the scene two hours after.

Shortly after 9.30am, all lanes on the dual carriageway were opened again.

Footage of the lengthy A63 Eastbound queue from a little earlier this morning. As can be seen, the traffic was moving slowly between Great Union Street and Hessle junction.

The A63 Westbound is not affected by the collision earlier between two lorries, which led to an oil spillage and partial blockage of the A63 Eastbound.

'Normal traffic conditions' expected from 9.30am at earliest - National Highways

National Highways has issued an update on the congestion caused by the collision of two articulated lorries on the A63 Eastbound this morning: "Normal traffic conditions are expected between 09:30 and 09:45 on 27 May 2022.

"There are currently delays of 20 minutes against expected traffic."

'Severe delays' warning

The AA's traffic monitor is also advising motorists of long delays due to the crash earlier this morning: "Severe delays of 23 minutes and delays increasing on A63 Roger Millward Way Eastbound between Priory Way and A1033 Hedon Road. Average speed ten mph."

The collision involving the two articulated lorries is understood to have occurred a little before 7am.
