• Overview

What: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launched the 6th edition of the UNEP Adaptation Gap Report: The Gathering Storm in a high-level online press event. The report provides an update on the global status and progress of the adaptation process across three elements: planning, financing, and implementation. In addition, the report assesses the overall results in adaptation using a forward-looking approach and takes a thematic deep dive into the COVID-19 implications on adaptation progress.

As the world looks to step up efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions – efforts that are still nowhere near strong enough, the report finds that the growth in climate impacts is far outpacing our efforts to adapt to them.

The Paris Agreement requires all its signatories to plan and implement adaptation measures through national adaptation plans, studies, monitoring of climate change effects.
