In a follow-up on the hemorrhagic fever situation in Mauritania, the Ministry of Health and Veterinary Affairs showed that 14 cases of Rift Valley fever (RVF) and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) were recorded in 6 wilayats (provinces), namely, Al-Barakna, the Eastern Basin, and the Western Basin, in addition to the northern states of Nouakchott, Dakhlet Nouadhibou and Lasab.

The 2 ministries explained that the results were obtained after conducting 85 tests in 12 states, where the data showed one case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever in the commune Mbagne, Brakna.

With regard to Rift Valley fever, 5 cases were recorded in Hodh ech Chargui state: 3 of them in Nema and 2 distributed between Walata and Djigueni.

Four cases were recorded in Hodh el Gharbi state: 2 in Aoun, and one each in Tintane and Koubni.

Two cases were recorded at the level of the capital Nouakchott: one in the province of Dar el Naim and the other in Toujounine.

One case was recorded in the Shami district of Dakhlet Nouadhibou province, and another in the city of Kiffa, the capital of the Assaba state.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on September 23 that the number of livestock infected with Rift Valley fever has risen to 216 cases distributed across several states after conducting 864 analyses, noting that the recorded cases are distributed over 5 outbreaks. Livestock cases of Rift Valley fever were recorded in the states of Tiris Zemmour, Adrar, Hodh el Gharbi, Tagant, Hodh ech Charguhi, and Trarza.
