The World Health Organization in Sri Lanka says the country has seen a rapid rise in the cases of dengue fever during the past few months of 2022.
This has prompted a dengue alert as 2052 dengue cases were reported in the week ending June 05, with the highest number (1050) being reported in Western Province and Colombo District.
According to the Sri Lanka Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health, 19,339 dengue fever cases have been reported in the country through May 2022, including more than 3,200 cases in Colombo.
Dengue is a viral infectious disease that is spread through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. Patients may experience symptoms such as fever, red rash on the skin, headache, pain in the back of the eyes, joint pain, muscle pain, bleeding under the skin, nose, and gums.
