Made In Mount Wise | Community Newsletter
Thursday 20th May 2021

It's good to be back.

We are back and deep into our school routine. This is a great thing. We have missed seeing everyone and of course learning together face to face. But how is it from our pupil's perspective?

We have taken time to meet with pupils and have asked them their opinion on what life is like for them. Below are some of our initial findings.

This online email newsletter will be how we communicate news from now on. Our first attempt, during lockdown, received some great reviews from parents who had signed up. Please help all families sign up via the link here.

Welcome back everyone. Have a super rest of term.

Believe you can...

It's good to be back.

"We love the new art and design spaces. We love the new playground."

It's good to be back.

"We would like to add some new choices to uniform, especially for PE"

It's good to be back.

"We have missed seeing our friends. A lot has changed, and it is feeling great to be back".

Teachers get back to it.

Head of School, Miss Jennings has been working hard with staff to review and refine planning. Teachers are regularly coming together to celebrate the fantastic outcomes from pupils. Art is a driver subject for us this term. All pupils will be taught how to develop skills that will lead on to creating a final piece of art. We look forward to sharing them with our community. Our families can stay in touch with our Art focus via our Twitter page: @school_mwp

We have missed meeting parents face to face. Would you like to support us in school?

There are many updates being made to the learning environments across Mount Wise. We have created a new classroom in Key Stage 2, updated the painting of learning spaces in Early Years, reviewed the outside play areas and garden, updated fire doors and windows, purchased new reading schemes across the school and created a multi use space including for art and design.

We have much that we still want to develop in school. If you would like to be part of our ongoing updates, and you have spare time to offer, we would welcome a chance to bond with community and take part in some painting events. Please let us know if you are available to support us. We will organise some short painting sessions that will be managed with COVID restrictions in mind. Our focus areas for painting are: KS2 lobby, corridors and Nursery. Email us if you would like to support:

We will welcome you with a smile.

Adding some choices to how Mount Wise looks.

Now we are back from lockdown, pupils have been clear with us about what they want changed. They want some new uniform choices. Choices that represent coming out of lockdown and offer a fresh sense of newness. As a staff, we tend to agree. Red as a block uniform colour is well known for being fiery and does nothing to promote positive learning behaviour. That said, we love red. Some might say, that it reminds us of the best football teams, and installs a sense of passion and energy.

Choice means voice.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but what we could do, and are keen to explore further, is to keep our current uniform, but add new additional items for parents to choose from if and when they wish. Here are some samples of uniform that pupils have expressed an interest in. One thing that the older children did want, was a change in look as they get older. Currently a pupil who is three years old wears the same jumper as a pupil who is ten years old. Maybe this could be looked at and adapted? More information will follow on Friday. Let us know what you think via our email below.
I have some thoughts on uniform choices

Year groups are flying into half term. Thank you for your support.

Learning at Mount Wise is going well. Pupils are working hard to develop their knowledge of art. They are learning new skills and building their confidence across our curriculum. As we move closer to half term, we would like to say a big thank you for all your support. Let's take this opportunity to share some examples of learning in action.
