Conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano, this special anniversary screening of Verdi’s Rigoletto celebrates 171 years since its premiere in 1851.

Courtesan Violetta sings some of Verdi’s most acclaimed arias including the joyous ‘Sempre libera’, in her poignant and passionate encounters with Alfredo and Germont. Richard Eyre’s production for The Royal Opera recently celebrated 25 years on the Royal Opera House stage and this year returns with acclaimed opera star Pretty Yende as Violetta.

New Welsh Government guidelines come into effect on the 18th February, so there will be welcome changes to our entry requirements as follows:
From Friday 18th February, covid passes will no longer be needed to attend events at Wyeside.
From 18th February audience capacity in our auditoriums for both film, satellite and live will return to normal – But please be mindful of other customers and keep a safe distance where possible – we appreciate this won’t be possible for busy screenings.
Although we would like to encourage pre-booking, from Friday 18th February this will no longer be mandatory, and our box office will be open for walk-ups. On-line booking closes two hours before the scheduled start time of an event.
Until the 28th February, masks are still mandatory whilst in the building, unless seated and eating or drinking. From 1st March, we are requesting that our customers wear a mask on arrival and departure and whilst moving around the building. Your mask can be removed once seated.
For the continued safety of all customers, staff and volunteers please consider taking a lateral flow test prior to attending – this however will no longer be a mandatory requirement.
From 4th March we will return to you being able to book your favourite seat/s using our seating plans for both auditoriums.
We will still offer one socially distanced screening for each film, where possible.

As we move towards living with covid, we will do what we can to ensure your safety. However, you are best placed to gauge what level of risk you feel comfortable to accept, please be mindful of this when booking events that may attract a larger audience.

Daily in-depth cleaning of all public areas. Touch points are disinfected regularly through the day and between screenings.
Ventilation in the Castle cinema is set on ‘fresh air’ supply only. This means that it may be cooler than usual in our auditorium so please wear an extra layer.
Staff are on hand to help with any issues or queries that may arise during your visit.

Bookings can be made 24hrs a day via our website. On-line booking closes two hours before the scheduled start time of an event. Tickets can also be booked by calling our box office. During busy periods, staff may be unable to answer the phone, but please leave a message and a team member will respond as soon as they are able. Although pre-booking is advisable, from Friday 18th February, our box office will be open for you to just turn up!
