Library opening hours and services from March to May

The library continues to operate on a self-service basis for Uniarts users only in May, as per university’s coronavirus-related guidelines.

Updated May 4: Sibelius Academy Helsinki library continues as a self-service library in May for Uniarts students and staff only, while some restrictions were lifted. The restrictions do not apply to Kuopio library. Academy of Fine Arts and Theatre Academy libraries were closed on April 30. Due dates have been moved.

Updated March 11: Due to worsening COVID-19 situation, Uniarts facilities remain closed until May 9, 2021, and access is possible only for Uniarts users with a personal access key. Loan due dates have been moved, and reservation queues are going to be cleared. Read more about due dates and reservations below. 

Library services in Sibelius Academy Helsinki will be available to a limited extent as a self-service library during May. The library units at Theatre Academy and Academy of Fine Arts are closed from May 1 before merging, and the new library opens in the autumn.

The self-service library in SibA Helsinki in May is accessible only to Uniarts Helsinki students, researchers and staff members with a personal access key. The possibility to open services for other library patrons depends on Uniarts guidelines regarding the use of university facilities.

Please maintain a 2-metre safety distance to others and wear a mask at the university unless you have a specific health-related reason to not wear one. See the safety measures concerning the use of Uniarts Helsinki facilities.

Some restrictions have been eased in SibA Helsinki library: up to six people can study in the reading room, and every other seat on computers and other study places are available.

The restrictions do not apply to Kuopio library which will be open until May 31. The customer service is open from 12 to 14 on weekdays. Access to the library in the evenings with library card and a PIN code. The library is closed in June and July.

Loan due dates and reservations

Loan due dates and reservation pick-up dates of Sibelius Academy libraries’ materials (both Helsinki and Kuopio) have been moved:

Helsinki:

  • If there are no reservations, the loans will be automatically renewed until September 8, but if there are reservations to the loans, their due date will be June 9
  • due dates for new loans will be on September 8
  • as of June 9 new reservation’ last pick-up date will be in September

Kuopio:

  • loan due dates have been moved to September 8
  • last pick-up dates for new reservations is September 14

Academy of Fine Arts and Theatre Academy libraries’ loan due dates have been moved to October 1, 2021. The reason for a later due date is that the libraries in question closed on April 30 for the summer.

If your loan has expired October 19, 2020, or before, the due date hasn’t been moved. 

If your reservation has expired while the library has been closed due to a corona situation, please make the reservation again, or contact the library if needed. 

Academy of Fine Arts and Theatre Academy libraries’ materials cannot be reserved after May 1, due to the closure and merging of the libraries. 

Limited services

Library users can collect the material they need independently from the shelves or by making a reservation, in which case they can pick up their material from the reservation shelf. The material will be loaned using the self-service lending machine. If you forgot your library card home, you may use the mobile library card. Customer service is available by phone or email. Check the opening hours from Arsca. You may pay library fees only online. Read the instructions for online payment.

Interlibrary loan service for Uniarts users opens on May 10.

Computers may be used for quick printing and scanning. Electronic materials are available in Arsca, and with your Uniarts account you have access to all electronic collections 24/7.
