Research Overview

My current research focusses on public contracting and its role in promoting innovation, resilience and sustainability goals in supply chains. It is directly relevant for the UN Sustainable Development Goals No. 3, 9 and 12. Specific themes in my research programme include: (a) contracting for R&D and innovation to address societal challenges such as affordable healthcare, (b) contracting for resilience in pharmaceutical supply chains to curb shortages of medicines, (c) procurement for social value and sustainability in the public sector, and (d) performance-based contracting for effective delivery of equipment and related services in defence. Through such work I cultivated an interest, more broadly, in the interplay between supply chain management and public policy. My research recently won the prestigious "Harold E. Fearon Best Paper Award" of the Journal of Supply Chain Management.

Profile

Kostas Selviaridis is Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at the Department of Management Science, LUMS. He previously lived in Sweden where he worked for Lund University (2010-2014). Kostas has held visiting positions at the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University; Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University; Tilburg University; BI Norwegian Business School; Stockholm School of Economics; EADA Business School; Aix-Marseille University; and the International Hellenic University.

Kostas holds a Ph.D. in Management Science from LUMS, with his work being co-awarded the 2008 Kingsman Prize for the best doctoral dissertation. He also received a M.Sc. in Operations Management from Manchester School of Management, UMIST, and a B.Sc. in Economics from the Department of Economics, Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki.

Kostas' engaged research with numerous firms and public sector organisations is internationally recognised and has attracted funding from various sources. His award-winning work has appeared in leading outlets including the Journal of Operations Management, Research Policy, Journal of Supply Chain Management and Decision Sciences.

Kostas is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. He has designed and taught undergraduate, postgraduate and executive MBA courses in the UK, Sweden, France and Greece. Kostas is currently supervising two PhD students. He successfully co-supervised to completion three doctoral candidates in the recent past.

Kostas is an elected Board Member of the European Operations Management Association (EurOMA). He also serves as Associate Editor in the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management. He is a regular speaker at international conferences and an active member of the International Purchasing and Supply Education and Research Association (IPSERA).
