Welcome to Your Library

Our libraries are here for you and you are welcome to visit any of our sites. We want to help you study, research and get the best out of our resources, spaces and services.

Start by searching the library collections using OneSearch to discover the digital and physical resources on offer. Explore your subject library pages to find your way to the best resources for your course. Be inspired by our campaign displays and reading schemes such as Reading for You. Visit the campus libraries for individual and group study space as well as browsing the physical collections. Ask our friendly library staff in person and online for whatever help you need, and don't forget, there is no such thing as a silly question! Thrive on your course with support from the library Skills@Cumbria team.

Here is a special welcome to the library from two of our students (click the images below to play the videos and hear their stories):

Getting Started

  • Library induction activities

We're here to support you to become an independent and confident learner and to be successful throughout your time at university.

You may have a library tour scheduled with your course. Also look out for drop-in induction activities taking place at your campus library and online. Please remember that we are here to offer you a warm welcome and friendly advice throughout your whole time with us, not just in Welcome Week!

    Induction activities are designed to:

    • welcome you to your library
    • briefly introduce you to facilities and services based in the library
    • introduce you to the vast range of 24/7 digital library resources available to you online beyond the physical library building
    • ensure you know where to find support with academic skills
    • ensure you know where to find other help and support via the Student Enquiry Point
    • provide you with an opportunity to ask us anything at all - remember there is no such thing as a silly question in your library!

  • Help with accessing and using our services

Our staff are available to help you:

    • In person at the enquiry desk in your campus library or through our 'chat' service - click on the orange 'ask a librarian' tab on the right hand side of the page.
    • Contact us via the Student Enquiry Point with any queries about the library, referencing, accessing library resources and academic skills.
    • You can book a 30 minute online skills appointment with a Library and Academic Advisor (subject to availability). We use Microsoft Teams for online appointments. Appointments are booked through the online bookings system: Book an academic skills appointment.
    • The Skills@Cumbria team provide regular webinars on key topics.  See the Webinars page for more information and to book a place.
    • The library provides an out of hours Ask a Librarian service.  They can help with accessing resources and signposting help but are not able to help with academic skills queries.
  • Your feedback is important

If you have any comments, feedback or suggestions, please do let us know – we want to hear from you.
