Celebrating U.matter

U. matter was part of the University of Leicester’s Health Matters community engagement project, delivering a wide variety of free events, open to all members of the community, focusing on health and wellbeing. The purpose of this website is to celebrate its success, showcase our community partners and serve as a resource for future similar projects.

Introducing U.matter...

Watch this short video for a brief introduction to U.matter, including our beginnings, our aims and the amazing partners we’ve worked with over the course of the project.

Thanks to generous funding from the Edith Murphy Foundation, I’ve had the privilege of working with a range of fantastic community partners to deliver a wide variety of events and projects since 2017. By taking the opportunity to listen first, build relationships with community partners, and then support them to enhance and continue the great work they are doing despite massive challenges such as COVID-19, I’ve learnt so much about community-led engagement, the impact that arts and culture can have on community health and wellbeing, and have a deepened understanding of the ways in which the University can better support communities through meaningful partnerships.

Funding from the Edith Murphy Foundation allowed us to open up the George Davies Centre to the public. It was the perfect place to exhibit the artwork created as part of the U.matter project.
