ABOUT CONFERENCE

Our first international conference aims to provide an effective platform for the active participants from the academia, industries and research institutes to connect and discuss the recent advances in Manufacturing, Automation, Design and Energy.

The international conference shall also create a multi-disciplinary summit that transcends departmental, institutional, industrial, public and private research organizations across the globe. It also lends itself to the integration of research and education in the pioneering field of Mechanical Engineering.


Objective

Convene the subject experts around the globe to imbibe technical knowledge to the participants in the allied branches of Mechanical Engineering.

To provide a platform for the advancement of current knowledge in the field of Manufacturing, Automation, Design and Energy.


ABOUT DEPARTMENT

Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in July 2014 with an undergraduate (B.Tech) Program. At present, the department also offers Ph. D programme. Dedicated faculty members with expertise in diverse domains of mechanical engineering such as Computer Aided Design, Industry 4.0, Smart Manufacturing, Ergonomics, Design Automation, Power Plant Structural Analysis, Natural Fibre Composites, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy, Thermal and Fluid Science, which contributes to the department knowledge hub. Likewise, the non-teaching staffs are sound in technical skills and help to strengthen the student's theoretical understanding through lab practices.


Department puts a great effort to help women gain a sense that they belong to the Mechanical Engineering discipline. It also wants to see more women opting to pursue Mechanical Engineering. It facilitates active industrial projects for students such as IGCAR Kalppakam, Pondicherry Power Corporation Limited Karaikal, etc. With this, the students are made aware of current technologies, innovations and the necessity of industrial collaborations as well as addressing the real world problems. Our department also encourages our students to form a technical/arts/innovation club, develop entrepreneur skills, participate in sports meet, engage in cultural activities and other co-curricular activities to improve their professional skills and groom them as a well rounded off personalities to provide the required leadership skills in fulfilling Make In India manthra to compete with the fastest growing country with available resources. Our department emphasizing on active interdisciplinary research, initiate collaboration with foreign universities and drawing external sources of funding from various funding agencies such as DST-SERB, DST-Inspire Faculty Fellowship, DST-UKIERI with Loughbourgh University, London,UK.

ABOUT INSTITUTE

National Institute of Technology, Puducherry, Karaikal (NITPY), is an autonomous public technical institute nestled in the scenes of Kariakal, a coastal enclave in the basin of river Kaveri in the Union Territory of Puducherry. It is one among the 31 National Institute of Technology of India and is declared as an Institute of National Importance by Government of India under NIT Act, 2007.


The institute was established in 2010 and is spread across 258 acres in the villages Poovam and Thiruvettakudy of Karaikal. The institution is at a constant attempt of making endeavours to scale new heights by developing a synergy between studies, research, consulting/training activities, and placements. The institute is ranked at 130 under the category of "India Rankings 2020 - Engineering" of the 2020NIRF rankings, released by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

    Prof. Joydeep Dutta

    Topic: Brackish water desalination using membrane-free capacitive deionization

    Prof. Joydeep Dutta is a Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology since 2015 and is the head of the Functional Materials Group in the Department of Applied Physics and is amongst the top 2 % scientists in the world as adjudged by Stanford University recently. After completing his PhD in 1990, he did Post-Doctoral work at the Electrotechnical Laboratory (ETL, Japan) and at Ecole Polytechnique (France) before moving to Switzerland in 1993 where he was associated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) until 2003 following which he joined Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He served as the Vice President (Academic Affairs), Director of the Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology and Professor in Nanotechnology at AIT. Before coming to KTH, he was Chair Professor in Nanotechnology for Water Desalination and other applications in Sultan Qaboos University, Oman from 2011-2015. His broad research interests encompass development of sustainable nanomaterials for planetcare specifically including, photocatalysis and electrocatalysis and saline or impaired water treatments. Author of over 250 publications, three text books and inventor of more than 15 patents, he won the Choice award for Outstanding Academic title in 2010 (from American Library Association). He has delivered over 100 invited and keynote lectures. He is in the editorial board of a few journals and regularly referees articles in international journals. He is also the chairman of the board of Stockholm Water Technology AB producing spirally wound capacitive deionization modules integrated into solutions ranging from water desalination to urban mining.

    Topic: Integrated Renewable Energy Systems with Energy Storage for Reliable Standalone Rural Applications

    Prof. K. Srinivas Reddy obtained his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in Energy Studies in 1999. He then joined National Institute of Technology Warangal in June 1999, after a brief service of about 4 years at NITW, he joined IIT Madras in April 2003 as an Assistant Professor. Presently, Dr. Reddy is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras and he is also an honorary professor at University of Exeter, UK. He also served as an Adjunct Professor at CEERI-CSIR, Chennai during 2014-17.


    Prof. Reddy is a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering (FNAE) and he is specialist in renewable energy with special research interests on concentrating solar power, energy efficiency and environment. He has 8 patent applications and more than 280 publications of which, 151 papers in reputed international journals, including five review articles on solar energy systems and energy storage. His co-authored book on “Sustainable energy and the environment: a clean technology approach” Published by Springer and book chapters on solar energy systems are popular among energy and environment community.


    Prof. Reddy is actively involved in the implementation of solar thermal technologies for power generation and process heat applications through “Design-Development-Demonstration-Deployment (4-D)” approach. He has executed several research projects related to solar energy and energy & environment funded by various national and international agencies such as DST, MNRE, AICTE, RCUK, EPSRC, UKIERI and ICIMPACT. His work on estimation of thermal conductivity & thermo-physical properties and characterization of engineering materials significantly benefited the industrial associates for development of energy efficient thermal insulation materials. In recognition of his research work, Dr. Reddy received several awards such as WSSET Innovation award, Shri J.C.Bose Patent award and twice, the Bhagyalakshmi and Krishna Ayengar Awards. He also won career award for young teachers from AICTE in 2003. Very recently, He received the Mid-Career Level Institute Research and Development Award (IRDA)-2018. He is an expert committee member in various selection/ review committees and the Visitor’s nominee for IIT Delhi. As a part of human resource developmental activities, he supervised over 176 UG, PG and Ph.D. students, most of them are well placed and working now in prestigious organizations. He organized several national & international workshops on advanced renewable energy technologies.

    C.Jebasihamony, Scientist – ‘G’ ISRO

    Topic: LOW COST AND SAFE ACCESS TO SPACE

    C. Jebasihamony worked in UR RAO Satellite Centre (URSC), Bangalore as Scientist in the area of Dynamic Testing of Indian Satellites like SROSS, IRS, INSAT-II. He was also involved in the Design & Analysis for Jig and Fixtures for dynamic environmental testing of Satellites.


    Presently he is working in ISRO Propulsion complex, Mahendragiri as Senior Scientists in the area of Integration of Earth Storable Booster Rockets of GSLV Mk-II & Integration and testing of Cryogenic Rocket elements like CUS & C-25 stages of GSLV Mk-III programme.


    His core Competency areas include Cryogenic Rocket integration, Plasma coating of Rocket Nozzles, Proof pressure testing of tanks, Cryo contamination control, Precision alignment of rocket engines, Integration of Earth Storable rockets, Vibration Testing of air bone systems and Acoustic Emission Testing of vessels. He also presented many technical papers in leading scientific National conferences and a permanent member of Aeronautical Society of India.


    He is an Awardee of ISRO’s Service Excellence Award


    He is Associate Project Director of GSLV Mk-II & Mk-III.

    Topic: Architecture and Design of Polymer Nanocomposites for Electronic and Sensor Devices

    Prof. Rajiv Prakash received his M. Tech. degree in Materials Technology from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India and completed his Ph.D. thesis from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay. Currently, he is Professor Materials Science and Technology, and Dean (Research and Development) of Indian Institute of Technology, (BHU) Varanasi. Before joining IIT (BHU) Varanasi he served CSIR lab Lucknow as Scientist for more than 7 years. He has been recipients of Young Scientist Award (Council of Science and Technology), Young Engineer Awards (Indian National Academy of Engineering) of India and Materials Society Medal Award of India. He is elected as Academician of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials in 2013. His current research interests include Architecture and design of functional polymers and nanocomposites for their applications in organic electronic devices and sensors/biosensors. He is participating as PI/Coordinator in various National Mission projects like Technology Innovation Hub, IMPRINT, SPARC and Energy Mission projects of DST. He is having more than 200 publications in international journals of repute and 20 patents in his credit (out of which two technologies transferred for commercialization). He is in Editorial Board of several National and International Journals. He is member of various national committees including India Vision Plan 2035 of DST-TIFAC, Coordinator of “Polymeric and Soft Materials” under Advanced Materials Theme of IMPRINT under MHRD for Road Map 2020; Panel member of DRDO Aerospace Resources Panel (ARP-AR & DB); Member Defence Corridor Committee for Uttar Pradesh and PAC member DST for Technology development program (TDP).

    Topic: Intelligent Robots

    Prof. Dilip Kumar Pratihar received his BE (Hons.) and M. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College (now, National Institute of Technology) Durgapur, India, in 1988 and 1994, respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, in 2000. He received University Gold Medal, A.M. Das Memorial Medal, Institution of Engineers’ (I) Medal, and others. He completed his post-doctoral studies in Japan, and then, in Germany under the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellowship Programme. He received the Shastri Fellowship (Indo-Canadian Fellowship) to work on humanoid robots. He is working now as a Professor (HAG scale) of IIT Kharagpur, India. His research areas include Robotics, Soft Computing, Manufacturing Science, and others. He has made significant contributions in the field of computational intelligence. He has published 160 research papers in peer reviewed international journals and more than 100 papers in conferences and national journals. He has contributed 18 chapters in edited international books. A few of his fundamental contributions published in IEEE, ASME, Elsevier, Springer journals are being highly cited by researchers in the field. His h-index values are found to be as follows: 36 (Google Scholar), 26 (Scopus), 23 (Web of Science), 37.74 (Research Gate). He has written the textbooks on “Soft Computing”, “Fundamentals of Robotics”, co-authored another textbook on “Analytical Engineering Mechanics”, edited a book on “Intelligent Autonomous Systems”, co-authored four reference books on “Modeling and Analysis of Six-legged Robots”, “Modeling and Simulations of Robotic Systems Using Soft Computing”, “Modeling and Analysis of Laser Metal Forming Processes by Finite Element and Soft Computing Methods” and “Multi-body dynamic modeling of multi-legged robots”. His textbook on “Soft Computing” has been translated into Chinese language also. He has developed three on-line NPTEL courses, such as “Traditional and Non-Traditional Optimization Tools”, “Robotics” and “Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks”. He has guided 22 Ph.D.s. He has completed a number of sponsored projects funded by the DST, DAE, DBT, MHRD of Govt. of India, and two consultancy projects of the industries. He has filed two patents. He is in editorial board and has been appointed as Associate Editor of a few International Journals. He has been elected as a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (I), MASME and SMIEEE.

    Prof. Tapas Kumar Mallick

    Prof. Tapas Kumar Mallick received his MSc in Physics, Master of Technology in Energy Technology and PhD in solar energy engineering from Visva-Bharati (1996), Jadavpur University, India (1998) and University of Ulster, UK (2003) respectively. He has over twenty years of research experience in solar energy technologies. He is currently the Chair in Clean Technologies (Renewables) within the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) and he leads the Solar Energy Technology research at University of Exeter. Prior to joining the University of Exeter, he was at Heriot-Watt University, UK, where he led the “Applied Solar Energy Research” and also the “Concentrating Solar Energy” group within the Scottish Institute for Solar Energy Research - SISER ( http://siser.eps.hw.ac.uk/ ). He has secured research funding (>£13.5m) as PI and Co-PI of various national, European, International and Industrial funders. Prof. Mallick led several international projects including the UK-India project “Development and Integration of Biomass and Concentrating Photovoltaic System for Rural and Urban Energy Bridge”, empowering 24/7 electricity to 46 households in rural Indian villagers. In addition to board members of numerous national/international conferences/seminars, Prof. Mallick was awarded “British Indian Award for his services to Education” – a premier British Indian award in the UK in 2016. In 2018, Prof. Mallick co-founded the spin-out company “BuildSolar Limited” and received “Cornwall Sustainability Award-2018”. More recently he has been invited to become Fellow of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies, FWSSET. He has published over 310 research articles and holds two patents on solar technology successfully supervised 22 PhD candidates to completion in wide range of problem associated to Solar Energy.
