    The Grant

A Niels Stensen Fellowship grant covers the researcher's (and in some cases their family's) living and travel expenses as well as expenses related to the research that will be conducted in the time spent abroad.

The grant consists of three components:

    1. an allowance for living expenses
See on FAQ: Grant amount - What are the standard allowances for living expenses?
    2. an allowance for travel expenses
See on FAQ: Grant amount - What are the standard allowances for travel expenses?
    3. an allowance for ancillary expenses incurred during the research period. You can request a maximum of € 5,000 for any ancillary expenses you expect to incur during your research project (for items such as the bench fee, conference costs, costs of training programmes, etc.). A detailed estimate of these expenses should be submitted and evidenced afterwards by means of a statement and receipts/invoices.

The grant is awarded for a period of no less than nine months and no more than twelve months. The amounts received are tax free. Should the recipient have another source of income during the research period, such as ongoing salary payments or another grant, the amount of the grant will be reduced.
