About this app

According to the Construction Workers Bad Weather Compensation Act (BSchEG), the employer can stop work on the construction site in the shade from 32.5 degrees Celsius and the construction workers continue to be paid 60% of their hourly wages without working.

These extreme hot days are becoming more frequent as a result of climate change, but unfortunately work interruptions are not increasing to the same extent. The poor use of bad weather compensation is mainly due to the fact that many employees in the construction industry are still unaware of this option. In addition, far too often it is not clear whether the eligibility criteria that trigger bad weather compensation are actually met at the workplace. The measuring point of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) closest to the construction site must confirm the temperature of 32.5°C. If the criteria are met, companies can apply to the construction workers' holiday and severance pay fund (BUAK) for bad weather compensation.

The Bau-Holz trade union, in cooperation with GLOBAL2000 and the AK digitization fund, has developed an app that uses the mobile phone settings to create a direct "real-time interface" to the ZAMG measuring point closest to the place of work (construction site) and "proactively" emits a warning signal the app transmits as soon as the 32.5°C has been reached! It is therefore 100% guaranteed that when the alarm goes off, the statutory entitlement requirements for bad weather compensation are also met. Construction workers can then use the app to contact their works council and/or respective supervisor and ask whether the employer would like to make use of the corresponding bad weather regulation.

Features of the app:
+ Temperature display from the current location or from a self-selectable location (if ZAMG measuring stations are available)
+ Helpful advice for extreme heat or cold
+ The time the temperature is updated is displayed in the main menu (app request or ZAMG temperature)
+ A desired ZAMG measuring station can now be selected
+ To update the temperature manually, just tap on the temperature display!
+ Minor UI improvements
+ Performance and stability improvements
