With 1.3GW of wind spinning, British private equity fund Actis holds an unlikely joint first place in a Brazilian market dominated by international utilities, but years of steady investment are behind a momentum that could add another 300-500MW of new turbine capacity in the coming years.

“It was not our intention to become first in wind power generation, we were looking at the long-term potential Brazil has in the energy sector, and renewables in Latin America have grown really fast,” Bruno Moraes, Actis’ director for energy in Brazil tells Recharge.
