Thank you for your interest in the Disentangling Anxiety Inductions Study!
We would like to invite you to participate in a study investigating how different anxiety manipulations affect cognition and behaviour. It is hoped that this research will contribute to an improved understanding of anxiety related disorders and how to treat them.
What is the study about?
The aim of the project is to explore the differences and similarities in different types of mild (normal) anxiety. We will look at threat of mild electrical shocks, inhalation of a small amount of carbon dioxide, and social stress induced by performing tasks in front of an audience. We will explore how each of these, affects cognitive functions.
What will the study involve?
If you decide to participate, you will complete a testing session at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience that will take around three hours. You will complete some questionnaires and computerised cognitive tasks that measure your cognition, behaviour and symptoms of mental health. Please note that some of the computerised tasks may involve slightly unpleasant electrical shocks and/or inhalation of a small amount of carbon dioxide, and/or performing tasks in front of an audience. The study will take place at 17-19 Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London, WC1N 3AZ.
Will I receive payment for my participation?
We will reimburse you at a rate of £9 per hour. Depending on the task, you may also be able to earn bonus payments of up to an additional £9 per hour.
Can anyone participate?
Unfortunately, there are some inclusion/exclusion criteria in place which are designed to limit the risks
of the interventions. We have a brief online questionnaire that you will need to complete so that we can
assess your eligibility.
Where do I sign up?
Please continue the survey, which will less than 5 minutes. If you are eligible, we will contact you via email to schedule your visits.
How can I find out more?
Please see our Participant Information Sheet attached for a more detailed explanation of the study and what it will involve. If you have questions or would like further information, please contact our team at icn.daistudy@ucl.ac.uk.
Please note: All personal data will be collected and stored in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations. This study has been approved by the UCL Research Ethics Committee (ref24013/001).
