The Group for Economic Analysis at Reading (GEAR), known until 2022 as the Economic Analysis Research Group (EARG), is part of the Department of Economics within the School of Politics, Economics and International Relations (SPEIR) at the University of Reading. It was founded in 2005 by Kerry Patterson, Professor of Econometrics, and focuses on the analysis of core areas of economics and econometrics. Its interests include macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics, with an emphasis on the practical application of theoretical concepts. It has worked in collaboration with the Bank of England, the Fondation Banque de France, the European Central Bank, the Money, Macro and Finance (MMF) Society, the Groupement de recherche européen (GdRE) Monnaie banque finance, ESRC's Rebuilding Macroeconomics Network, the National Institute of Social and Economic Research (NIESR), Université de Lille as well as with other international, national and local research and policymaking institutions.
