If you want to study abroad next year, the following conditions apply:
- At the time of application: registered or completed all courses of the first and second bachelor year (120 ECTS)
- At the time of departure: completed all courses of the first and second bachelor year (120 ECTS). Exception: if students don't pass all courses, 2 UGent-courses AND max. 12 ECTS of bachelor 1 or 2 can be combined with the study abroad
- Students who follow preparatory or bridging programmes need to have finalized all courses from this programme before the actual exchange. Exception: if students don't pass all courses, 2 UGent-preparatory/linking-courses AND max. 12 ECTS can be combined with the study abroad
- Follow a programme of at least 24 ECTS (or 18 ECTS for MA Business Administration Sem 2) per semester at the host institution (matched to min. 24 ECTS at UGent). For a standard track students follow around 30 ECTS at the host institution.
Note:
- A course for which you have been exempted is a course for which you have acquired credits (only within the context of exchange applications)
- The credits obtained for a course with exemption are acquired credits (only within the context of exchange applications)
- Students who entered the programme via a bridging or preparatory year do not have to comply with the 120 ECTS rule. But they must have finished the entire bridging or preparatory year in order to be allowed to leave on an exchange (with the exception of max. 2 courses together max. 12 ECTS). If the student did not pass all the courses, he/she can retake these courses in the year of the exchange after approval of the professor to follow these UGent courses at a distance.
- An exchange in which you acquire less than 24 ECTS at UGent on the basis of your foreign curriculum is not possible.
- Once you have taken a course at UGent, you also have to take an exam for that course at UGent. An absence for a course is different from a cancellation of a course. In the latter case, the course also disappears from the student's curriculum. Courses for which the student was absent at the exam, are considered as taken courses and can therefore not be part of a curriculum in an exchange application.
