Studying in 2022/23

For the academic year 2022/23 we will be in our classrooms, labs, performance spaces, and studios for in person teaching. In addition, we’ve listened to our students and also taken the best parts of online learning and applied them to our curriculum to create more accessible content and activities. Most of all, it means you’ll get the in-person teaching and learning support that will help you succeed in your studies, combined with the benefits of some online access. Should the situation change (such as new legal restrictions), we’re prepared, and can support you and your learning.

Studying on Campus in the Summer Term 2021/22

You will need to attend campus if at least one of your exams, assessments or other academic activities will be taking place in-person and on campus, from the start of the summer term (Monday 25 April).

Your school will have communicated with you what the plans are for your exams, assessments and teaching activities in term three.  If you haven’t yet heard from your school or you are unsure as to whether your exams, assessments or teaching activities will be taking place in-person in the summer term, please contact your school helpdesk and they will be able to advise.

Although all Covid-19 legal restrictions within the UK have now been lifted, we know that the pandemic is still causing disruption in other parts of the world. Therefore, if you know that you will be unable to return to campus to attend in-person exams, assessments and teaching activities from the start of the summer term (Monday 25 April), please contact our Student Administration team for advice. You will need to provide us with the reasons why you are unable to return to campus and please be aware that, if you can’t return to campus, the alternative may be that you have to interrupt your studies until you are able to resume your studies in-person, on campus.

As they have been throughout the 2021/22 academic year, all campus services will remain open throughout the summer term and we are encouraging all students to take advantage of everything that campus has to offer. Being in an educational environment, having access to the Library and its increased number of study spaces, and being able to connect with your classmates, will help you to succeed. There will also be opportunities for you to connect in-person, meet up on campus with friends, old and new, and enjoy the different aspects of our campus community.

International students from outside of the UK

Following our previous communications with you on UK Government’s concession to allow international students to study through distance learning, we have been informed that this has now been extended until Thursday 30 June 2022. This means that, although we are encouraging all students to study in-person and on campus from the start of the summer term (Monday 25 April), if all of your teaching and assessment activities in the summer term are going to be taking place online and you are currently unable to travel to the UK, you may be permitted to study from your home country until the end of June.

You must currently be registered with the College as studying online outside the UK.

  • Your School confirm that you can complete your degree online and that you do not have in-person assessments or activities for the remainder of the Academic Year
  • If you are a non-finalist student expected to continue your studies in the 22/23 academic year you must have never been issued a CAS by the College to support a Visa application
  • If you are a finalist student and are expected to complete your studies this year and you have a Royal Holloway sponsored Student Route or Tier 4 Visa this will be cancelled (curtailed). This would have the following implications:
    • You must not use your Student Visa for travel to the UK
    • You would not be eligible to apply for the Graduate Immigration Route Visa
    • You would have to apply for another visa if you wish to return to the UK in the future; the type of visa you will need will depend on the reason for your return to the UK.
