We welcome letters of interest from scientists with an outstanding track record and innovative vision for a new independent research group within the area of skin immunology. The LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center was founded in 2019 based on a ten-year grant. The centre addresses fundamental research questions within modern immunology and aims to become a platform for world-leading studies in skin immunology and inflammation. The primary criteria for future group leaders are excellence in fundamental research and/or translational research and a genuine interest in interacting with other researchers at the centre in order to develop it as a research centre of excellence.

The LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center is a vibrant, internationally diverse and ambitious research environment with state-of-the-art facilities and technologies located at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. The location on the twelfth floor of the Maersk Tower is ideal for collaboration and exchange with other centres and departments within the faculty and Copenhagen science community. The new group leaders will establish independent research programmes within the field of immunology and skin biology/disease. The centre provides group leaders with a generous support package, which includes their salary, support for other personnel, consumables and modern laboratory and office facilities. The group leaders are expected to supplement this package with national or international grants and/or industrial collaborations. In addition, the group leaders are expected to engage in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels at the faculty and in multidisciplinary research collaborations with other groups in the centre and within the Copenhagen area.

We offer:

  • A generous start-up package, including salary, support for other personnel and consumables (€ 530-660,000 annually for the first five years depending on your level of seniority and outcomes of your midway evaluation).
  • Support from the management and centre for professional development and planning individualised career paths.
  • Attractive modern laboratory and offices at the Maersk Tower.
  • Access to cutting-edge technologies through shared-resource platforms and staff expertise in flow cytometry, single-cell sequencing, genomics, imaging and data analytics.
  • A vibrant scientific community with a strong internal synergy suited for easy collaboration and exchange with other centres and departments at the University of Copenhagen and the greater Danish scientific community.
  • Opportunities to turn basic research discoveries into translational research in close collaboration with the centre’s clinical partners and the Copenhagen Translational Skin Immunology Biobank and Research Programme.
  • Affiliation to the Immunology and Infectious Diseases Graduate Programme for international PhD student recruitment and training.
  • Local support for finance, HR and Research and Innovation.
  • Excellent additional funding opportunities. The University of Copenhagen is one of the most successful institutions within in the EU in winning Horizon Europe funding.
