Welcome to Eton Excelsior Rowing Club

We are a welcoming, medium-size rowing club located on a beautiful section of the river Thames. Eton Excelsior Rowing Club (EERC) is the local rowing club for Windsor and the surrounding area and one of the oldest rowing clubs around, established in 1826. We cater for complete beginners, juniors, recreational rowers, intermediates and those who aspire to race at the highest levels of rowing competition.

Our original club house was in Eton, hence the name, but we are not related to our famous neighbour, Eton College! Get in touch or check out our Learn To Row page if you fancy having a go. Rowing is a great team sport and a sociable way to be fit and active.

Open and Friendly

We are the open rowing club for Windsor, Slough and Eton. “Open” means ‘open to all’, that is, men, women, adults, juniors and veterans.

Fun & Social

We have an active social calendar, come along and see us at play!

Learn to Row

We actively encourage and welcome enquiries from Adults and Juniors who wish to Learn to Row (LTR) and we run frequent courses.

British Rowing

We are affiliated to British Rowing, the UK governing body for amateur rowing, have achieved Sport England Clubmark accreditation and have accreditation as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC).

Equipment

The club has extensive rowing and sculling boats for use by the squads on water and a comprehensive gym and ergo setup for land training.

Safety

Member safety is paramount, we have active safety plans to ensure the safety and welfare of our community.

Why row with us?

The main rowing activities you can participate in:
  • Sweep oar rowing (in pairs, fours and eights)
  • Sculling (in singles, doubles and quads)
  • Rowing and sculling coaching
  • Fitness training
  • Competitive rowing and sculling (at Regattas and Head Races)
  • Recreational rowing and sculling
The best route is to sign up for one of our Learn to Row courses. It offers a structured training programme and at the end of the course, if you wished to continue rowing at EERC, we would integrate you into one of the existing squads with other similar standard rowers.
The club provides free coaching from members who are experienced rowers, many of whom have also obtained coaching qualifications from British Rowing. All our coaches are volunteers. The main coaching sessions takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 7.30 am and 1.00 pm. The coaches will also be in attendance during weekday evening sessions, including gym sessions.

Our rowing squads

The entry point. Those with a basic knowledge of how to row and are working to improve their skills. Some are just looking to have fun on the water, others are keen to progress to competitive squads. This squad benefits from dedicated coaching from experienced volunteer coaches. See the coaching page for more details.
For those who want to learn to compete and win. There is a fitness benchmark for this group, you need to have mastered the basic stroke and be available regularly for training, usually alongside more experienced senior and masters rowers with a regular coach/coaches.
This group is for experienced athletes racing above novice level and the training regime is 5/6 days a week. Our Seniors benefit from regular coaching, appropriate to their level and aspirations, and follow the club training programme.
Many athletes of mid-30s+ will do at least part of their racing as Masters. From 40+ most will be predominantly Masters racing. Our Masters follow the club training programme and have regular coaching appropriate to their level and aspirations.
This is for our 12-18 year old members. The EERC Juniors are focused mostly on sculling and competing in quads, doubles and singles. The younger squads aim to have fun in our internal events and compete at local regattas. The older squads aim to compete at local and national regattas and row for their country.
