The best route is to sign up for one of our Learn to Row courses. It offers a structured training programme and at the end of the course, if you wished to continue rowing at EERC, we would integrate you into one of the existing squads with other similar standard rowers.
The club provides free coaching from members who are experienced rowers, many of whom have also obtained coaching qualifications from British Rowing. All our coaches are volunteers. The main coaching sessions takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 7.30 am and 1.00 pm. The coaches will also be in attendance during weekday evening sessions, including gym sessions.
The entry point. Those with a basic knowledge of how to row and are working to improve their skills. Some are just looking to have fun on the water, others are keen to progress to competitive squads. This squad benefits from dedicated coaching from experienced volunteer coaches. See the coaching page for more details.
For those who want to learn to compete and win. There is a fitness benchmark for this group, you need to have mastered the basic stroke and be available regularly for training, usually alongside more experienced senior and masters rowers with a regular coach/coaches.
This group is for experienced athletes racing above novice level and the training regime is 5/6 days a week. Our Seniors benefit from regular coaching, appropriate to their level and aspirations, and follow the club training programme.
Many athletes of mid-30s+ will do at least part of their racing as Masters. From 40+ most will be predominantly Masters racing. Our Masters follow the club training programme and have regular coaching appropriate to their level and aspirations.
This is for our 12-18 year old members. The EERC Juniors are focused mostly on sculling and competing in quads, doubles and singles. The younger squads aim to have fun in our internal events and compete at local regattas. The older squads aim to compete at local and national regattas and row for their country.
