THE HOST

Suomen tulevaisuus is hosted by one of the most famous and internationally recognized top researchers in Finland, Academy Professor Howy Jacobs. Since 1996, the British-born Jacobs has been professor at the department of molecular biology at the University of Tampere, where he leads the centre of excellence for mitochondrial diseases and aging.

Howy has worked as an Academy Professor for the Academy of Finland since 2006, and in 2009, the Finnish Union of University Professors nominated him Professor of the Year. Jacobs believes the popularization of science is an important task – the gap between the scientific community and the general public must be closed to allow us to keep doing international quality research also in the future. Jacobs is passionate about Finland and the Finnish society and satisfies his curiosity with the interesting topics of the science series – and asks why we still have hope.
