RTFKT’s ‘Phygital’ Luggage Flies Off The Shelf

RTFKT, the Nike-backed NFT studio behind the popular CloneX avatars, dropped a new collection on Oct. 27 in collaboration with luxury luggage manufacturer Rimowa.

The collection has seen heavy trading with over 1,125 ETH ($1.7M) of volume on OpenSea alone, pushing it to the top of the marketplace’s 24-hour leaderboard.

Consisting of 888 NFTs that can be redeemed for physical cabin luggage and 2,222 “robot collectibles,” the Meta-Artisan collection was sold through a raffle conducted virtually in an OnCyber space.

Founded in 1898, Rimowa’s signature aluminum suitcases are popular with business travelers and the company was acquired by luxury conglomerate Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH) in 2016.

The 888 cabin luggage NFTs are divided into 4 tiers by rarity and the cheapest one will currently set you back 2.4 ETH ($2,600). For comparison, a ‘regular’ version of the same Rimowa luggage retails for $1,650.

Forging will take place at a later date and the physical items will be embedded with NFC chips that can serve as a link to the forged NFTs.

Meanwhile, the robots have maintained a floor price of around 0.28 ETH ($420), up 4x from the mint price of 0.07 ETH.

Art Blocks Friendship Bracelets

Art Blocks, the leading generative art platform that kicked off a frenzy during the bull run of summer 2021, said that it will release a collection of ‘Friendship Bracelets’ in partnership with artist Alexis André (a.k.a. MacTuitui).

Anyone holding an Art Blocks NFT as of Oct. 26 will be able to claim 2 of the bracelets for free, and the claim period will start on Nov. 3.

According to a release, the project was conceptualized by Art Blocks founder Erick Calderon and aesthetically and programmatically designed by Alexis, pairing “creative coding with a beautiful spectrum of embroidery floss colors.”

State Of The Market

Secondary sales volumes are barely holding above the $100M mark, with $101M traded in the week ending October 24. This represents a decrease of 3% over the previous week.

However, there was an uptick in the number of transactions, which rose 4.6% to 361,000.
