From September 2020 a number of undergraduate and postgraduate health courses will receive a £5,000 annual grant, with some eligible for up to £8,000. There has never been a better time to start your health career with University of Cumbria. 

Nursing 

Occupational Therapy

Diagnostic Radiography

We have opportunities available to train in adult, children, mental health and learning disability nursing. We work with local NHS Trusts and Partnerships to provide superior placements, giving you hands-on experience right from day one.  Our courses are approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which means you’ll get the skills employers are looking for.100% of our nursing students find employment after graduation. 

Occupational therapy provides support to people whose health prevents them doing everyday activities. You will learn how to treat injured, ill, or people with a disability through the therapeutic techniques to help them develop, recover, improve, as well as maintain their independence. Our BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy is a pathway to an exciting and rewarding career, providing you with a professional qualification recognised world-wide, and a degree that can open many doors to working within health, wellbeing and social care settings. 

Using a range of state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment, as a diagnostic radiographer you’ll look inside a patient’s body and acquire images to help with the diagnosis of illnesses and injuries. Accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and approved by the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) our Diagnostic Radiography course will teach you all you need to know.

New institute’s ambition to tackle NHS staffing crisis

A new Institute of Health set up at the University of Cumbria aims to tackle the ongoing staffing crisis in the NHS with a dual purpose of recruiting more new staff in Cumbria as well as upskilling and retaining the current workforce.

A delegation from the German equivalent of the British Nursing Association visited the UK last week on a fact-finding mission that could pave the way for major changes to the healthcare system in Germany.

The Chief Nursing Officer for England chose the University of Cumbria for her first visit to a university, to welcome the latest cohort of north-west trainee nurses who will go on to form the future workforce.

Be taught by real midwives who share their knowledge and passion for the job, who carry out cutting-edge research and advise on national advisory bodies. Our midwifery courses are accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), which means you’ll be able to step straight into the job the day after you graduate. 100% of midwifery students are in work within six months of qualifying. 

Midwifery

Practical learning sits at the heart of our course, so you will be able to make the transition from learning to earning fast. Our programmes integrate academic study with supervised clinical practise, providing you with over 1,000 hours of clinical experience in a variety of settings.You’ll have access to newly refurbished physiotherapy suites and mock clinical wards as well as the opportunity to work on real-life research projects.
