Dr. Alan Javier Hernandez Alvarez recently collaborated with Plant Meat Limited (THIS™) through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (#KTP), along with Professor Brent Murray, Dr. Lily Nur Sulaiman, and Luke Byrne, to develop plant-based eggs that could transform the food industry. Eggs are incredibly versatile and to create a plant-based alternative with the same versatility is a significant challenge. 🌟 Associate Spotlight: Meet Our AAKTP Associate! 🌟 We are thrilled to introduce our #AAKTP Associate, Abdulhakeem Olasupo! The innovative AAKTP programme is a unique partnership between a UK knowledge base, School of Food Science & Nutrition, University of Leeds and Nutrition, a Nigerian knowledge base, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, and a Nigerian company, Agro Park Development Company Limited, all supported by Innovate UK. Abdulhakeem began his AAKTP journey in May 2023, in which he plays a pivotal role in creating a bridge between international academia and industry. We had the chance to catch up with Abdulhakeem for a quick Q&A. He shared insights into his role and what he enjoys the most about it, what a typical day as an AAKTP Associate looks like, and his experience visiting the UK for Ashorne Hill training and meeting with colleagues at the University of Leeds. Exciting updates from our recent trip to Nigeria! 🌍 Last week our KTP@Leeds Project Coordinator, Katie Wallett, alongside University of Leeds academics Idolo Ifie and Chikere Nkwonta PhD, MRSB, AFHEA, visited Nigeria to further our African Agriculture Knowledge Transfer Partnership (AAKTP) project in partnership with Innovate UK. This project has the goal to enhance postharvest management techniques by implementing sustainable biopolymer coatings as eco-friendly alternatives to traditional chemical preservatives. This aim is to reduce postharvest losses, extend produce shelf-life, and food security in Nigeria. During the visit, we met for a productive project meeting (LMC), where we received insightful updates from various stakeholders including our #KTP Associate Abdulhakeem Olasupo, Michael Anibi from the Agro Park Development Company, and academics Dr. Islamiyat Bolarinwa Ph.D, MSc, and Moruf Oke from LAUTECH ODL, alongside Idolo and Chikere from the School of Food Science & Nutrition, University of Leeds. Our journey continued with a first-hand exploration of the Agro Park Development Company farm in Ogun State, where we gained valuable insights into their operations and facilities. We also had the privilege of visiting the company's offices in Lagos.
