Opposition parties in Tigray to World Bank and EU: “stop supporting Addis Ababa”

Three opposition parties in Tigray called up on the World Bank and the European Union particularly Germany and Italy to stop supporting the Ethiopian government in a joint statement sent to UMD Media today.

Tigray Independence Party (TIP), National Congress of Greater Tigray (Baytona) and Salsay Weyane Tigray (SaWeT) accused Addis Ababa for maintaining an iron grip siege on Tigray, for the tens of thousands of Tigrayans languishing in Nazi like concentration camps only because of their Tigrayan identity; for continuing arbitrary arrest of innocent Tigrayans; and for continuing to sabotage the flow of humanitarian aid to Tigray using various pretexts.

The joint statement called the talk about resolving the war on Tigray through negotiation a “gimmick for peace” with “a sinister objective of thawing the pressure that has been mounting on the regime from the international community. “

The three parties stated that “any form of collaboration with this genocidal regime disregarding the above mentioned facts is tantamount to providing a helping hand to the genocide on Tigray.”

In a separate statement issued by Tigray Independence Party the same day addressing the European Union and the US stated that ignoring the suffering of Tigrayans in Ethiopia who continued to be “victims of genocide” and supporting the Ethiopian government under the pretext of peace talks while subjecting humanitarian issues to political calculations should be nothing but “shame and disgrace to Western civilization” .

The two statements are issued from Mekelle, the capital of Tigray.
