Teachers get inventive to enable remote learning

21 April 2020

Necessity is the mother of invention, something Ronald Kock, a teacher at Diazville High School in Saldanha, is all too familiar with.

Kock came up with an innovative method to use a box for screen recordings. This method is of great use to teachers who wished to record lessons but lacked the resources.

“Through my engagements on social media, I saw a box and I also received a lot of requests on how to record videos. As a creative person, it stimulated me to find a solution to the problem. I did some research and managed to put something together through a few modifications and applications software that is freely available. I posted the solution on Facebook and Twitter and the response was overwhelming with almost 2000 views. A local educator created her own version from the design of the box. This just shows that where there is a will, there is a way.”

Kock said due to the realities of teaching in a rural area, he always had to think outside the box.

He is a master trainer for ICT integration in the circuit and is able to live out his passion for teaching, learning, curriculum development and capacitating others to become educators of excellence.  Kock acquired his honors degree and post-graduate certificate in FET Mathematics (Cum Laude) and is currently enrolled at CPUT as a Masters in Education student, in the field of digital literacy in ICT.

He has a FET Mathematics website, a YouTube channel and is in a collaboration to create a Facebook group for Mathematics and Technical Mathematics.

A true ICT Champion - ready to tackle any challenge and willing to share with others!
