BASAS Conference 2024 – King’s College London (9-11 September 2024)

We are delighted to announce that the British Association for South Asian Studies Annual Conference 2024 will take place at King’s College London on September 9-11, 2024.

The call for papers is now open!

There is no specific theme for this year’s conference. Proposals are invited for panels and individual papers relating to all regions of South Asia and its diaspora, from all arts, humanities, and social science disciplines.

Panel proposals should include individual abstracts for each paper and details of the panel chair (who can be a speaker). Panels will last for 90 minutes should contain three, or a maximum of four papers (in exceptional cases). Incomplete panel proposals will not be accepted. The conference organisers may seek to add additional individual papers to accepted panels, in discussion with panel organisers.

Individual papers should last no more than 20 minutes and will be grouped thematically into panels by the conference organisers. To assist with this, in addition to a c. 100-word abstract please provide up to five keywords that capture the main themes of your paper.

To submit a proposal please complete the relevant form for either a complete panel or an individual paper. The forms can be accessed here:

We hope to be able to notify delegates of the outcome of abstract submissions by the second week of May 2024.

This is a members-only event. Conference registration is a 2-step process; you need to be a member of BASAS first before submitting an abstract. You can join BASAS here.

Registration:

Registration for the conference will open from 10 May 2024. If you choose to attend the conference, the fees are set as follows:

Full-fee rate – £190

Concession rate – £90

You will be able to pay the conference fees in the Members’ Area once registration has opened.

BASAS seeks to provide events in a mix of formats this year. After careful consideration, we have decided to hold the 2024 conference in person. We are also exploring the possibility of hosting a limited number of online sessions, either during the main conference or at a future follow-up event/s for students registered in universities in South Asia. If you are such a student, to help us gauge demand for this, please indicate on your proposal form if you wish your paper to be considered for an online-only session.

We look forward to welcoming you to KCL!
