Kit out the Nation

Thank you for supporting our Kit out the Nation campaign.

Our aim was to get kit and sports equipment to the schools and clubs where a young person can use it. Good condition equipment, that would otherwise go to landfill or simply remain in cupboards, could get an extended life and help a young person get active.

We asked you to share everyday items of sports kit (clothing) and regular games equipment that a young person can use in an activity, such as balls, bats and rackets.

We have had over 61,000 items donated with hundreds of companies and charities involved all working closely with local BBC radio stations across England, and BBC radio stations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We are no longer looking for donations as part of this campaign. There are however companies and charities who maybe able to help if you're looking for kit.

Please DO NOT bring donations to BBC sites as we are unable to accept them.

What is the Make a Difference Kit out the Nation campaign?

In July 2021, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee published data from Sport England which showed 100,000 fewer children met the recommended level of activity in 2020 than in 2019 and it was "of significant concern".

There has been a long standing issue around access to sport and exercise because of the affordability of kit. Also, good condition equipment, that would otherwise go to landfill or simply remain in cupboards, could get an extended life and help a young person get active.

From September to October 2021, we asked you to help us get kit and sports equipment to the schools and clubs where a young person can use it. Good condition equipment, that would otherwise go to landfill or simply remain in cupboards, could get an extended life and help a young person get active.

We are a school or club and want to access kit or equipment - how do we do this?

If you’re a school or club who would benefit from receiving donated kit or equipment, we’ve listed below some schemes that will help:

  • Business2Schools has an online form where schools can register to ask for donation pledges. This covers much of the UK.

Alternatively, you (schools and clubs, not individuals) can browse our list of companies and charities above and contact them directly.
