The 3rd edition of the Regional Water Dialogues in February 2023

Day 1, Wednesday, February 1st, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. High-Level Day

Format: Onsite and virtual

In the opening panel, the regional and global context of the event will be provided, focusing on the development of regional commitments for the 2023 Water Conference.

Next, a session on Global and regional context of water as a vector of development will be organized. After the break, a panel on Water and Sustainable Development will explore advances in governance aspects and integrated water resource management in the region, as well as discuss challenges related to water investmen

To provide relevance to regional integration in water matters, a special session will be held with the official launch of the Network and Observatory for Water Sustainability (ROSA). This space seeks to strengthen the capacity of countries to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate improved water policies that address multidimensional water problems. The project is expected to provide a space for active discussion, interaction, and promotion of region-specific solutions to water management challenges.

To close of the day, a panel on Water and Climate will be held, where the challenges of the region will be presented with a focus on the Caribbean and its commitments in terms of climate, resilience, disaster risks the environment.

Day 2, Thursday, February 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. High-Level Day

Format: Onsite and virtual

On the second high-level day, the Water and Financing session will take place. This session seeks to highlight the possibilities for innovation and ways to create sustainable investment plans to support the new circular water management model.

Following this, the panel on Water and Cooperation will be held, where progress in aspects of transboundary basins in the region will be explored, as well as other forms of cooperation to accelerate the achievement of SDG 6.

After lunch, the Water, Energy and Food panel will be held, addressing the interrelations between water and various productive sectors.

Afterwards, an open exchange session will be held for openintervention of participants onsite ad online. 

To end the day, the closing remarks of the high-level days will take place. 

Day 3, Friday, February 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Technical Session

Format: Onsite and virtual

SDG 6 will take place. This session seeks to discover the Water Valuation Initiative and multi-stakeholder solutions from the public, private, and academic domains, as well as the civil societies.

Specifically, concrete solutions will be addressed to promote a sustainable and inclusive water transition based on the pillars of the SDG 6 Global Acceleration Framework (financing, data and information, capacity development, innovation and governance) and the Initiative Valuing Water, by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, current co-organizers of the United Nations Water Conference 2023. This session will count on the participation and comments of the regional group of experts in water resources in the region.

The third day closes with the preparation and adoption of a Water Action Agenda for the region and the closing remarks for the entire event. 

The agreements and commitments obtained throughout the Regional Water Dialogues for Latin America and the Caribbean, will be translated into inputs for the United Nations Water Conference, to be held in March 2023 in New York City. Here, all member states, civil society and United Nations agencies will be invited to report on the results achieved. Thus, the event is conceived as a platform for dialogue, which encourages the exchange of information, knowledge and experiences of the countries of the region, with actions and commitments to advance towards the achievement of SDG 6.
