An Iowa man accused of stealing and torturing his ex-roommate's cat is in custody.

Chad Toney, 30, turned himself in Thursday morning, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office.

Toney allegedly broke into his former roommate’s home Feb. 1 in Benton County and stole his cat.  He then sent the man photos of the cat being left in the cold and being physically abused, authorities say. The cat, which was being held in Chelsea in Tama County, was returned to its owner after the crime was reported Sunday. It is unclear how the owner got the animal back, the sheriff's office said.
