The theme of this year’s Wales DTP Capabilities and Careers Conference is ‘Methods for Critical Social Science’. The Conference is an opportunity to hear from leading academics, as well as post-doctoral and doctoral researchers on topics including race, masculinities, disability, child health and educational inequality. Participants will be encouraged to consider and discuss how they can enrich their own work using critical methods, engaging and collaborating with the communities among whom and with whom they research.
We are delighted to announce that our distinguished keynote speaker will be Professor Sara Ryan, Oxford University, a pioneer of qualitative research methods on health and social care with a particular focus on learning disability and autism.
The conference will include expert-led workshops which will look at working with data, conducting interviews with third object prompts, and using inclusive methodologies such as ethnography, participatory action research and co-production. Student discussion sessions will provide the chance to share experiences with qualitative, quantitative and mixed-method research methods, and to learn lessons for achieving wider social impact with their research.
Participants will also have a chance to reflect on their experiences as ESRC students and to contribute to the Wales DTP’s work on equality, diversity and inclusion.
The conference will take place online on 27-28 April. It is free of charge and is open to all Wales DTP students. Full details are available in the Conference programme.
