About this event

Join us for this special online event with Phil Earle, author of many brilliant books for children including Demolition Dad, Saving Daisy and award-winning Being Billy. In conversation with Katie Tsang, bestselling author of Dragon Legend and Dragon Mountain, Phil will talk about his powerful new novel, When the Sky Falls, and you’ll even get the chance to put your own questions to Phil at this special event.

‘An extraordinary story with historical and family truth at its heart, that tells us as much about the present as the past. Deeply felt, movingly written, a remarkable achievement.’ Michael Morpurgo

When the Sky Falls: Inspired by a true story.1941. War is raging. And one angry boy has been sent to the city, where bombers rule the skies. There, Joseph will love with Mrs F, a gruff woman with no fondness for children. Her only loves are the rundown zoo she owns and its mighty silverback gorilla, Adonis. As the weeks pass, bonds deepen and secrets are revealed, but if the bombers set Adonis rampaging free, will either of them be able to end the life of the one thing they truly love?

Phil Earle was born and raised in the north of England, and is the author of twenty acclaimed, award-winning books for children and teenagers. He has worked as a carer, a dramatherapist, a bookseller and a publisher, and loves talking at schools and festivals around the world. He lives on the side of a very steep hill with his partner, their five children and two dogs.

Katie Tsang is a bestselling children’s and YA author. She is the author of the Sam Wu is Not Afraid and the Drangon Realm books, which she writes with her husband Kevin Tsang. Additionally she writes YA as Katherine Webber, and is the author of Wing Jones, Only Love Can Break Your Heart, and the upcoming YA fantasy Twin Crowns (co-written with Catherine Doyle). Katie is originally from California and currently lives in London with her husband and young daughter.
