About this event

Let's Explore: The Oxford Covid Vaccine Trial and Routes into Scientific Research

Dr Sean Elias, University of Oxford

Are you interested in a career in scientific research? Whatever your background and interests there are many different routes into science – explore them here and ask your questions.

The ongoing COVID-19 vaccine trial at the University of Oxford has a team of 300 researchers, doctors and nurses working alongside thousands of volunteers towards the common goal of a successful vaccine. To work on a big scientific project such as this one, you don't have to necessarily go down the typical route of Undergraduate-PhD-scientists. We discuss alternative routes such as through apprenticeships and nursing and point out that coming from a minority background or having a disability, for instance, are not barriers to working in this field.

Dr Sean Elias is a post doctoral scientist and principal investigator at the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford. He is working with Professor Sarah Gilbert on the Covid-19 vaccine trial. One of his interests is how to engage the public in research.
