About this event

Sky and Reflex Arc, with the XR Stories project at the University of York, have designed a new mixed reality game to investigating how to design more accessible and inclusive experiences for diverse users.

We are currently taking expressions of interest to be a user tester.

Who are we looking to participate?

We are looking for participants over the age of 18 who are blind, partially-sighted or who have a hearing loss to participate. We also have a small amount of spaces available for individuals who are do not identify with the above groups.

What are we testing?

A new game which has been designed first to maximise the experience of low and no vision players, then features added for other user groups, including individuals with hearing loss - rather than accessibility being added as an afterthought. We want to know whether this approach makes user testing a new technology more inclusive and whether it produces a game which is accessible and interesting to a variety of users.

When?

York: 4th or 7th November.

You will be contacted to organise and date and time which suits you.

What will I have to do?

Register your interest on Eventbrite. The researchers will then get in contact to organise a session and go through the formal paperwork for the study.

You will then be invited to the Creative Media Labs in York. This space will be set up like a living room and you will get to play around with some new mixed reality TV technology. The researcher will then have a chat about what you thought of the game (what worked, what didn't, would you use technology like this again?).

The in-person testing will take approximately an hour and participants will be reimbursement for their time.

Who are we?

This research study is being led by Dr Ward, a researcher in media accessibility. She is part of the XR Stories project and is working with other partners Sky Ltd and Reflex Arc to make new media technologies more accessible to a wide range of users.
