The RAISE SIG for Research & Evaluation warmly invites you to our networking lunch and (hybrid in-person/online) panel discussion with speakers who were involved in the REACT project in different ways to share what lessons they have taken from the experience and an assessment of where student engagement is in the sector
This year marks five years since the HEFCE funded REACT project was completed. A collaboration between the University of Winchester, University of Exeter and London Metropolitan University, REACT brought 13 partner universities together to support and evaluate their development of student engagement initiatives. The project team assessed which students were engaging in the development of education, exploring whether so-called ‘hard to reach’ students were represented. A key finding was the need to make opportunities more accessible while putting to bed the term “hard to reach” as not helpful when assessing student participation. Instead, universities need to look at their own opportunity barriers instead of treating students as homogenous groups
Much has changed in the sector in the 5 years in between. As REACT was designed to increase collaboration across the sector and look at what worked for student engagement, it is timely to reflect about on what has happened since the project completed and where student engagement may be going.
