UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence: Data Science and AI for Sustainable Futures

What is Environmental Intelligence?

Environmental Intelligence (EI) is the integration of environmental and sustainability research with data science, artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies. EI at the University of Exeter is a multidisciplinary area of research that provides the meaningful insight required for individuals, businesses and policy-makers to address the challenges associated with environmental change. This collaborative research environment embraces Mathematics, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Social Sciences, Biosciences and Natural Sciences, all of which offer different academic pathways into this exciting research area.

About the CDT

The UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence: Data Science and AI for Sustainable Futures provides PhD students from a range of academic backgrounds with an interdisciplinary training environment to equip them with the core skills required for a new generation of interdisciplinary EI practitioners. Training is provided in data science and statistics; and the ethics, governance, and responsible innovation principles related to the use of big data and AI. Students also introduced to a range of environmental challenges. The 4-year training programme is designed to empower students to explore different research domains and methods, before developing their own PhD research plan and assembling a multidisciplinary supervisory team. The CDT recruits students in cohorts to begin in September each year - find out how to apply.
