2020 High-Level Political Forum

Under the theme “Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development ",  the 2020 meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2020 will be held from Tuesday, 7 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020, under the auspices of ECOSOC. This will include the three-day ministerial meeting of the forum from Tuesday, 14 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020. .

Previous editions of the HLPF were centred around the review of specific SDGs, whereas the 2020 HLFP will see participants debating on where we stand on the SDGs, five years after their adoption, and considering the enormous impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The role of the 2030 Agenda in the recovery, and how to get back on track to achieve the SDGs and accelerate the action during the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development.

Our constituency in the HLPF

The most important moments for our constituency will be the third edition of the Local and Regional Governments Forum, which sets out to The third High-Level Local and Regional Governments Forum will illustrate the distinct elements essential to the kickoff of the Decade of Action from the perspective of the local and regional government constituency in the post COVID-19 recovery phase through two different lenses. 

The Forum will highlight the rapid actions local and regional governments have taken in preventing and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic through universal public service delivery and share examples of how they can act as the catalysts in the bottom-up transformation towards sustainability and resilience after the pandemic. 

The Local and Regional Governments’ Day aims to bring together the delegation of local and regional governments to discuss and agree on the constituency's Statement to the HLPF; define the priorities of the constituency for the post-COVID19 era.

The Local and Regional Governments' Day will take place virtually, and it will present the fourth edition of our report to the HLPF, “Towards the Localization of the SDGs”, which calls for call for establishing a joint agenda between local, national and international levels to bolster local action and accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda,enhancing and upscaling local and regional governments initiatives. It claims, more than ever, to intensify international solidarity and cooperation.
