Iris
Growing up next to the Keller boys was anything but easy for me. I didn’t shine like my sisters. No one ever really noticed me, except for Clay. He stole my heart when I was only eleven years old, and I never got it back. Now that he’s coming around again, I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to resist the temptation - especially when he’s tall, ripped, and looking sexy as hell.

Clay
When my dad moved us across town and away from the life we knew and loved, a part of me was left behind - tucked deep inside the soul of an Everly beauty. No matter how much time has passed, my thoughts have always made their way back to her. Now that I’m home for the summer, I have one thing on my mind - getting the girl next door.

When I read the blurb, I was very exited to read Take me away, Rachel Kierwin's debut novel, because friends-to-lovers is one of my favorites tropes.

Clay and Iris were childhood friends who, in recent years, grew apart. Iris has always been in love with Clay, but he gave her mixed signals since they were children.
The pair reconnects during the summer after Iris's high school graduation and they soon starts a relationship. They couldn't be more different from each other: Iris is a very simple and quiet girl who doesn't like to party, she lost her mom when she was younger, and she is very close with her dad and her two sisters. Clay, on the other hand, is the mayor's son, he's one year older than Iris, he's had a rough first year at college and he's trying to be a better person.

Unfortunately, I had a hard time connecting with both Clay and Iris. In more than one occasion, I didn't approve Clay's behavior, and Iris often seemed very childish. Both characters, to be honest, felt immature and their relationship felt too insta-love to be true.

The premise of this story was great, but unfortunately everything felt a bit rushed. I know there is a second book and that Iris and Clay's story is far from over, and I'm curious to read what is going to happen to their young love. I truly hope that in the second installment of the series, they'll both be more mature and focused on facing their problems, rather than escaping from them and from each other.

I borrowed this from KU mainly because of the cover. I don’t really know what I was expecting when I picked this up. Maybe a cute YA romance? What I got were two immature characters and a crappy love interest.

Iris for the most part, was an okay character. She was sheltered and just an easy going girl. However when it came to Clay, she became immature and quite naive. She did stand up for herself a bit but always ended up letting Clay back in. Clay was not a good love interest. He played games and hide so much information from Iris. For him to claim that she was it for him, he really kept messing up. For someone who had been messed over, he should have known what his actions would feel like to Iris.

While this wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read, I don’t have any want to continue to the next book in this series.

This book captured me from the very beginning. It was very good and flowed well until I stumbled upon misuse of words, missing words, and grammar mistakes but there weren't that many. This probably won't bother other readers but it distracts me and I get stuck on it. I just feel it needed a better edit. It also ends on a cliffhanger and I'm really looking forward to the next book so I purchased it and its on my to be read books. I received this book from NABC for in exchange for an honest review.

This is a 3.5 star book review.

I think this book was okay, but the characters and situation came across as pretty immature and underdeveloped. I understand that the characters were still teenagers (or very early twenties), but their arguments and reasonings behind a lot of their actions or feelings felt like those of twelve-year olds.

Clay was a jerk who cared more about the opinions of his family and "friends" then sticking around for his friend and crush, Iris. He hurt her a lot and still played off like the victim of his circumstances by hiding things from her or just generally making Iris feel insignificant to him. Iris, on the other hand, is very sheltered and doesn't really do much sticking up for herself. She's naive about life and relationships as evidenced by the fact that Clay was the first and only boy she had liked (or who had paid any attention to her). They fought sometimes and Iris always let Clay come back, which made their relationship pretty toxic to me.

The author did a great job of writing Iris's unexpected pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage, as well as the after-effects for both characters. I instantly felt sad for both of them, but also a bit relieved. The relationship between Iris and Clay felt immature, rushed, and underdeveloped to make it good enough to enjoy. I was a bit glad that they didn't end up happily ever after in this book because they didn't feel ready enough to be together fully. Plus the addition of an unexpected baby would have played a hindering role in making me like the characters or romance better.

There is a second book in this series since this book ends on a cliffhanger. I almost hope that both characters mature a lot more in the next book because as they are right now, I hope they don't end up together at all. But I guess that's just my opinion.

Take Me Away is the debut novel from a promising new author, Rachel Kirwin. It focuses on Iris Everly and Clay Keller. Iris is wise beyond her years having lost her mother years back, and has had to take on a lot of responsibility for the household while her twin sisters are away at college, leaving just Iris and her dad at home. Clay has just come home from the summer from college, Clay and Iris used to be closer when they were young but as they got older unfortunately grew apart.

Iris’s life is full of loss, she has dreams she wants to chase in her life, but is also torn to wanting to stay home after high school to help her dad. Clay is slightly older and more experienced than Iris, but he’s also been fighting his feelings for Iris for quite awhile. When these two get around to trying something between them it's intense. Their relationship even early on is full of questions and uncertainty from family and friends and also themselves.

This story is full of young love, it’s full of lots of mistakes and tears, but it’s also full of heartwarming moments and a few steamy ones too! At the start this is mostly told in Iris’s perspective but does switch back and forth about half way through. This is the first book of a trilogy, so we will get to continue to delve deeper into Clay and Iris and their relationship in the upcoming books. I can’t wait to see what’s to come for these two!

This is the story of Iris and Clay, childhood “friends” who begin a relationship the summer after Clay’s first year in college and Iris’s high school graduation. I put friends in quotations as the description seemed more like wishful thinking on Iris’s part than actuality.

I personally had a hard time liking Clay. He seemed overly concerned with what other people thought and didn’t treat Iris very well, both in childhood and into adulthood. He seemed very immature, and I didn’t connect with him at all.

While the book is told from both perspectives, you don’t see from Clay’s until more than halfway, I think that maybe if I had heard his perspective earlier on in the story I could’ve liked him more? He was beginning to redeem himself, and I was able to understand some of the motivation for his behaviour by the end of the book, but it was too little too late for me.

I liked Iris in the beginning, she seemed down to earth, and true to herself. But once she and Clay got together she became very jealous and childish. She seemed to vacillate between overlooking Clay’s poor treatment of her, and acting petty and immature.

I liked the premise of the book, and I feel like the potential was there, but in the end, I just couldn’t connect with the characters. It also ends in a cliffhanger, of which I am personally not the biggest fan.

This was an okay read. I had a hard time liking Iris and Clay. They used to be friends. Then once his dad became Mayor everything changed. I get that Clay's family life was hard but he was so unlikable.

Young Love “The Forever Kind”

Lots of love and emotion packed into this book. I enjoyed the beginning of Iris’s story as she enters into the world and starts life’s journey. Childhood love is a blessing and when you find it fighting to keep it can be hard. Obstacles stand in your way and you either let love go or you fight to keep it alive. I just know Clay and Iris will make it and I cannot wait to read where Rachel takes their love.

This is an amazing read! It was refreshing to read a first person book, I love third person but once in awhile it's nice to change things up. I love Iris and Clay's story and I found it very relatable. I'm a young adult getting started in life and Iris's thoughts and worries about the future and life really resonated with me as I have the same thoughts at times. The writing was very real and passionate, and it just sucked you in (I started the book this morning and finished this afternoon). I got all the feels during this book and yes it doesn't take a lot to get me emotional about fictional characters, but this was to an extent of some of the amazing authors I have read. I can't wait to read more from Rachel Kirwin and I would definitely recommend reading this book.

I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Clay and Iris are childhood friends, who have grown apart in recent years. Iris has always been in love with Clay, but until recently there was no hope for a future for them. Now that he is back from college for the summer, it seems like there may be hope for the two but there are still many hurdles they have to overcome until they can find their happily ever after.

I requested a copy of this book because I love the idea of friends evolving their relationship into romance, however I felt really disconnect with both characters. on more than one occasion, I felt both Iris and Clay were very childish. Yes, i know they are very young. only 18-19 yrs old, but still their actions made me question their compatibility as lovers. Both Iris and Clay were extremely influenced by peer pressure, which to me doesn't bode well for a true committed relation.

Additionally, up until you read the story from Clay's perspective, which is like half way in to the book, the book felt like reading a monologue. I feel like if I had heard his perspective a little earlier on, maybe it would have kept me interested in the story.

One of my biggest issues of this story was that, this was supposed to be a "friends-lovers" series, but having read what i did, it honestly doesn't seem like Clay and Iris were actually friends. Instead of saying they are childhood friends, I would actually argue that they are family friends. Kids who hung out together only because of their siblings, or parents. I personally could not find any true proof of their friendship.

Even so, I will say that Rachel Kirwin has done a really good job at portraying the struggles with which one has to deal with when your one-sided crush finally starts to take notice of you. Iris has been in love with Clay for so long, that it actually starts to make sense that she would, in order to be with him, forget all the horrible ways he has treated her in the past.

I know that there is a second book to this series, so I am hoping that the second book will redeem the series for me. Unfortunately this first book just did not work for me.

'Take Me Away' is Rachel Kirwin's debut romance novel and I can honestly say (and this is coming from someone who has dabbled in many romance/new adult fiction) that this was such a pleasant read! The writing was great in that careful attention to detail was taken and the overall pace of this story felt smooth and consistent; it also doesn't hurt that I found the story extremely addicting! The fact that I managed to finish this book in under 2 days with a teething 3-month-old at home should tell you a lot! No matter how tired I was at the end of the day, I couldn't help but to stay up until the late hours of the night because I just had to find out what kind of ending Iris and Clay had in store for themselves!

Iris was a fantastic protagonist; although she fit well in line with your 'good girl' trope, it was done so in a way where I didn't feel like I was reading about a character who had been done over and over again before. I feel like often times, 'good girls' in these romance-type novels tend to be completely defined and dependent on their timid dispositions; they demonstrate themselves to be weak-minded individuals in constant need of rescuing; however, I am relieved to say that this was not the case in Take Me Away (phew!). Iris had a bite to her sweet nature and, without wanting to give away too much information, let's just say I appreciated how she was also depicted as a strong character who was neither hesitant about standing up for herself nor expressing self-respect in situations that waged war between her heart and head.

Unfortunately, I am knocking off one star for an issue that is probably just a personal pet peeve of mine and that happens to be with the male love interest, named Clay, in this story. Again, I would hate to accidentally give away too much information so I'll keep it simple: I really did not enjoy reading about the way he handled conflict. He kept resorting to the same 'solution' anytime he was feeling perturbed, whether it was for something that was done to him or an issue he had brought on himself. (Ultimately, this always seemed to just make the situation so much worse.) I kept shaking my head at certain things he would say or do, and overall kept thinking that Iris seemed too good and mature for someone like Clay. I do understand that this is a coming-of-age novel too, so Clay's character is probably still developing and maturing, so I get that aspect.

Overall, this was a great read and super addicting! I will definitely be jumping onto the second installment in this series!

This was a great story about growing up and learning about yourself. Iris has always felt like she was on the outside. She had a crush on Clay, but in true life fashion he sometimes ignores her or plays pranks on her to blend in. They finally get together, but between his mixed signals and an interfering ex. They have a rough time of it. There is a lot if sadness, loneliness and heartbreak. I loved how Iris makes mostly good decisions, but even when she makes bad ones, she acknowledges it. Clay drove me a bit crazy with his wishy washiness, but I think it was his age combined with his family being put in the spotlight with his dad's job, and a horrible betrayal that made him that way. I love how the author made it easy to connect with Iris. I felt her pain and sorrow along with the giddiness of a new relationship. I can't wait to see what happens. There is still a journey ahead , and I hope these two can grow with each other.

What happens when your soul mate is the boy who used to live next door? What happens when your crush finally is yours?

This is a story of young love where shy bookworm Iris has always loved Clay. Iris continues to become more socially awkward and introverted, living a very sheltered life, as they hit teen years, whereas her crush Clay is popular and quarterback of the football team. Then after returning home for the holidays after his first year of college, Clay finally reconnects with Iris.

Iris and Clay are both well developed characters who have grown up in a small rural town and all of that involves. The Author has captured the feelings of first love, the angst of having overwhelming feelings for another person, being a teenager which means not always making the best decisions, peer pressure, being different to those around you, trying to find yourself and your footing in the world, as you embark on adulthood. Great start to a YA/NA duet/series and look forward to reading more about Iris and Clay in Catching You.

Thank you to the Author and Booksprout for the ARC. My review of this eARC is voluntarily and unbiased.

A Story that keeps you on your toes!

'Chasing You' by Rachel Leigh is the first book of a duet, it is about Iris and Clay. Ever since Iris was little, she had a crush on Clay, he was nice to her when they were alone. Although, when Clay's brothers were there, teasing Iris, he acted differently and didn't stop them. As they grew older, Iris became more conscious of this until one day she called him out on it. Clay is shocked by this and tries to improve his behaviour while doing so he ended up falling for Iris. But life has other plans, will they're relationship make it to the end?

This book has many twists and turns that will keep you entertained! I enjoyed the book and can't wait to read the second part of the story!!

Chasing You: Small Town Romance by Rachel Leigh. This is book one in Everly Place series and features the young love story of Iris and Clay. They were neighbors and his family moved away but now he’s back. Will they make the most of their second chance? Or will it always be the one that got away? I enjoyed the push and pull of these two, with their easy banter and connectivity. It made me want to reach out and pull them close and say “yes- this is right”. I enjoyed this story and found it to be a nice paced contemporary drama with just enough steam, drama, and conflict to keep you interested until the end. It does end on a cliffhanger and continues with Catching You.

Iris and Clay have known each other forever; then he becomes her first everything. My heart broke for both of them at various times. They just can't seem to be on the same page at the same time, still learning how to navigate a grown-up relationship. During the course of the story, she does a lot of growing up, maturing into a confident young woman. He still has a long way to go. This small town-romance tugged at my heart the entire time I was reading. It's a wonderful story from a new-to-me author, and I'm looking forward to the completion of the story in the next book.

I typically do not read YA, but I wanted to try and read out of my comfort zone. This story is ok, I was not thrilled with Clay & Luke's behavior, bullies are not ok in High School and should know better once in College. Throughout the book the boys are kind of childish. Iris is sheltered, the youngest, lost her mom young, and would rather have her nose in a book. I do like the relationships Iris has with her family and friends. She does grow over the time of the story.

Iris and Clay’s relationship is teenage angst and drama. While others might like it, I do not. Their story is not complete and will continue into the next book. This book was not for me, but I hope other will enjoy it.

Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This is Iris and Clay's story. They've known each other since they were kids. Iris is the quiet shy bookworm who gets teased and picked on while Clay is the popular jock. They are an unlikely match but Iris still falls hard for Clay. There is a lot of miscommunication and misunderstandings that happen as they try to navigate their relationship. This is a sweet story of young love that ends on a cliffhanger. Looking forward to book two to see if Iris and Clay can overcome the obstacles in front of them.

Clay Keller and Iris Everly had grown up together. He was a year ahead of her. Although Iris had thought she was in love with Clay, he had been away and there was no progress on a relationship. Now he is back for the summer after he completed his first year of college. Iris is now out of high school. There may still be roadblocks to get past, but will they eventually find their HEA?

This is the first book of a trilogy, so we should see their relationship growing as Book 2 is released. Grab your copy and follow their love story.

Iris was quiet and reserved at school and always had a crush on Clay. Clay, his brother and the other kids loved to make fun of Iris. But when Clay was alone with Iris he let her see his true feelings, and he loved her. Not he was home from college and she was graduating and Clay and Iris experienced their interesting and exciting romance with emotional outbursts, alcohol, past loves, death and insecurities trying to keep them apart. Fun read

Clay and Iris are both young and very immature, leading to a lot of issues when they attempt a relationship. Much of it not talking when they needed to, especially Iris. He was a horse’s behind in other ways, mostly when it came to his family, friends, and ex. He was also a terrible friend to her when they were growing up. Cliffhanger ending. I look forward to the next book!

Iris and Clay. They lived near each other when they were kids. Then Clay moved. Now she sees him again and the feelings are the same. But she feels like a nobody because she is different. Now he seems to notice her again.. But he is hot and cold which is very confusing. Does she take a chance or not? Is he worth the risk?
