Jobs at Enterprise Ireland-backed firms rose by 5pc in 2022

In 2022, 10,841 net new jobs were created, down slightly on the record 11,911 new jobs added in 2021.

Last year, Enterprise Ireland-backed firms announced the creation of 19,660 jobs.

However, 8,819 jobs were lost in the same period, resulting in the net figure of 10,841.

The jobs growth last year comes despite ongoing inflationary pressures and global economic uncertainty faced by the Irish companies, which are focused on exporting.

Enterprise Ireland-backed companies now employ a total of 218,178 people, an increase of 5pc from 2021.

More than two-thirds of the roles are located outside of Dublin.

Employment grew across EI’s three core economic sectors, with jobs in technology and services up 8pc over the year.

Roles in the industrial and life sciences sector increased by 5pc, while food and sustainability positions rose by 3pc.

EI also pointed to strong employment growth in a number of specific sub sectors.

Employment in the climate, sustainability and agritech industries climbed by 13pc in 2022, while the number of new hires in digital technology roles was up by 9pc.

“The Government’s target to have a record 2.5 million people employed by 2024 has already been exceeded,” Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney said.

“Enterprise Ireland has also exceeded its own employment target for 2022 with these results announced today,”
