The Irish public service is one of the biggest employers in Ireland, and there are always a wide variety of jobs on offer for people of all trades.

And with light in the tunnel at the end of the pandemic, many people will be starting to consider a different career path.

Here is a short breakdown of the best positions currently being advertised on the Public Jobs website:

1. Chief Executive Officer - Enterprise Ireland

Enterprise Ireland is responsible for supporting Irish enterprises to start, innovate and succeed globally, driving prosperity throughout Ireland. Its clients employ 221,000 people across the country.

They are looking for a candidate with:

• Deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Irish enterprises, including starting-up, funding, innovation and scaling internationally.

• Proven and extensive track record of achievement at senior leadership level in complex public and/or private sector organisations.

• Exceptional leadership skills to deliver on organisational goals in a rapidly changing environment and ensure a diverse, inclusive and innovative culture.

• Senior experience of leading the successful development and implementation of complex strategic and change management initiatives.

• Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse stakeholder environment including industry and the public sector.

• Strong advocacy and representational skills at senior levels of industry and Government, nationally and internationally.

The current salary for this position is €191,627 and the closing date for the role is December 17.

2. Head of Early Years Division  - Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth

The successful candidate for this role will be responsible for leading on ensuring access to high quality and affordable Early Learning and Care and School-Age Childcare, through the development of policy and leglisation.

Some of the qualities they are looking for in an ideal candidate are:

• Strong organisational skills with an ability to lead and manage a high performance division in a fast paced environment.

• A proven track record in policy analysis and policy development in a complex area where Government policy envisages substantial further service improvement and change.

• Adaptability and flexibility, with a capacity to find innovative solutions in a challenging policy and legislative environment.

The role is based in Dublin, and applications need to be in by December 10.

3. County Registrar - The Courts Service of Ireland

The County Registrar is a legal professional court officer in the Circuit Court, who is responsible for making orders in civil cases and other Circuit Court functions.

The successful candidate must, by the closing date:

  • Be a solicitor of not less than eight years standing who is currently practising or has previously practiced for not less than eight years:

OR

  • Be a barrister of not less than eight years standing who is currently practising or has previously practiced for not less than eight years.

The role is based in Wexford and Kilkenny and the closing date for applications is December 10.

4. Meteorological Officer - Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage

Met Eireann currently has three Meteorological Officer vacancies, in the categories of:

• Instrumentation Engineer

• ICT Technician

• Operations Officer

The successful candidate is expected to have a high level of expertise in electronics and/or instrumentation or a high level of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) expertise.

5. Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer - Kerry County Council

Kerry County Council is now looking for someone to lead a team in any of the main disciplines of the Fire Service: Fire Prevention, Operations, Fire Safety Management, Major Emergency Management, Civil Defence or Building Control.

The successful candidate will manage staff and be able to undertake the role of Rostered Senior Fire Officer at operational incidents.

6. Non Consultant Hospital Doctor - Health Service Executive

The HSE is currently inviting applications from doctors with an Irish Medical Council registration in the following specialities:

  • Anaesthesia and sub-specialities of anaesthesia;

7. Aviation Manager - Department of Transport

The Irish Coast Guard is currently looking for an aviation manager to occupy a senior management post.

They will be expected to provide leadership and management to the Irish Coast Guard on aviation matters, driving value for money and ensuring that contracts and procurement are within Public Procurement Guidelines.

The Aviation Manager will manage the current and future development of aviation and related contract(s) including managing the Coast Guard contracts portfolio.

The position is based in Dublin and the closing date is 3pm on December 3.
