JKN OUTREACH

JKN Outreach was established in November 2018 with the aim of actively seeking to provide help to some of the most vulnerable and less fortunate members of the Bradford community. It is entirely privately funded by family, friends, and community well-wishers. As our work has expanded, we have now started to receive donations from local businesses and companies such as Morrisons, Lidl, and Aldi.

We have no paid staff and the team is entirely made up of a dedicated group of volunteers who are all motivated by one common objective. This is encapsulated in our mission statement which is to Inspire and Enrich Lives.

Our Community Kitchen was launched in the heart of Bradford City Centre and has been open every Sunday without a miss. At this service we provide; warm meals and drinks with fresh fruit, clothing, and toiletry essentials in a warm, safe, and friendly environment to anyone who is in need. We operate an open-door policy which means that no referrals are needed and anyone who is in need is welcome to come by and get help. At present, we are serving in the region of around one hundred warm meals a week.

Furthermore, we also deliver warm meals to some vulnerable people of the community who are unable to get out or cook due to a disability, organisations that provide emergency, temporary and supported accommodation including hostels. We have also been working alongside other organisations to provide long life food packs to many vulnerable and impoverished families which include, refugees, asylum seekers, and people who have fled domestic violence. In the near future, we hope to collaborate with other local organisations and family support workers, charities, and schools to introduce a referral system for families who are experiencing a crisis and are struggling to get food.

Despite the current pandemic, our service has not only continued to remain active but was expanded to include a Coronavirus Community Support Service (CCSS). This was introduced when the pandemic first reached the UK to provide a quick response to support the needs of many vulnerable people that would have otherwise been left without adequate support in their time of need. Our volunteers have been relentlessly working on the frontline seven days a week and around the clock to collect people’s medication, shopping, and other essential items. In addition to this, we have been delivering food packs from our food bank to those who have unexpectedly experienced financial hardship due to the current situation.

This service has been met with an unprecedented level of demand and has received requests for support from Bradford Council, Citizens Advice Bureau,  community support workers, hospital staff, and various other charities and local organisations just to name a few.
Our recent CCSS work has further highlighted the need for more support to be made available to not only tackle the current situation but to find a long term sustainable solution. This is because we have come across a vast number of people from all demographics living in poverty going through unnecessary hardship due to the scarcity, lack of availability and access to help with food. This has been reflected in the sheer volume of different organisations reaching out to us for assistance.

We hope that working together as a community, we can provide a coordinated response to this humanitarian cause with support from local businesses and organisations in order to help people get back on their feet.

We are more than happy to clarify any questions you may have and welcome you to contact us.

JKN Outreach Services

JKN COMMUNITY KITCHEN

Open Every Sunday 3:00pm-4:30pm
Location: 15-17 Spring Gardens (off Manningham Lane), BD1 3EJ

The Community Kitchen started in November 2018 from the heart of Bradford with the aim of providing a warm meal and drink, clothing and toiletries essentials in a warm, safe and friendly environment to anyone who is need. We operate an open-door policy where no referrals are required.

The service has been open every Sunday without a miss from 3.00pm to 4.30pm at 15-17 Spring Gardens (off Manningham Lane), BD1 3EJ.

This project is entirely privately funded and sponsored by the generosity of family, friends and community well-wishers including some local businesses.

What started off as handing out a few meals in Bradford city centre, has rapidly grown into a fully-fledged meal provision service that hundreds of people benefit from on a weekly basis. The service has also expanded to include meal deliveries to other organisations that provide emergency, temporary and supported accommodation including hostels.

Testimonials:

“Really welcoming environment, friendly people with no judgement regardless of religion or social status or personal situation. Very much a popular project and very much appreciated amongst the people and community who use it every Sunday. Thank You!!!”

“Well presented menu could benefit from a government funded grant for caterers. Toiletries are a very good addition as like the fruit.”

“The Mosque is clean. The food is very good and the staff are friendly. Thank you for the help. Not much to add. Just keep doing what you doing. Many Thanks”

“These guys provide and excellent service on a Sunday. The people here are very good people who help others in need.”

JKN CLOTHING BANK

Open Every Sunday 3:00pm-4:30pm

Location: 15-17 Spring Gardens (off Manningham Lane), BD1 3EJ

We endeavour to provide clothing and toiletry essentials as part of this service that no one should have to go without.
Our clothing bank has grown significantly from providing some basic winter essentials to having a separate dedicated department which is open at the same time as our Community Kitchen.

Any clothing that is donated to us is either reused or recycled. This means that as they are kept out of land filled sites, greenhouse gases are reduced that harmful to the environment.

JKN FOODBANK

Collection Strictly by Appointment – Every Sundays 3:00pm-4:30pm

Location: 15-17 Spring Gardens (off Manningham Lane), BD1 3EJ

The JKN Outreach food bank was one of our longer term goals. Since January 2020, we have been working alongside other organisations to provide long life food packs to many vulnerable and impoverished families which include, refugees, asylum seekers and people who have fled domestic violence.

Currently we are working on ways to collaborate with other local organisations, family support workers, charities and schools to introduce a referral system for families who are experiencing a crisis and are struggling to get food.

Our food bank is growing fast and we are now receiving regular donations from some of UK’s major supermarket chains as well as from the public. With this, we aim to provide enough long life food in our packs to last someone 3-4 days and have been delivering food packs all around the Bradford district throughout the covid lockdown.

Community Outreach

Our Corona virus Community Support Service (CCSS) was introduced when the pandemic first reached the UK to provide a quick response to support the needs of many people that would have otherwise been left without adequate help in their time of need. The service has been aimed at supporting the elderly, vulnerable and anyone in COVID isolation throughout the Bradford district.

The service has offered practical support during a very testing time. It has primarily involved doing peoples shopping, collecting medication and other essential supplies which they would not have been able to get themselves. We have also been delivering care packs which include long life foods and toiletries and warm meals to anyone who has experienced financial hardship due to the situation.

The very first thing that we did was to visit all our neighbouring streets to reassure the locals residents that they can reach out to us if they needed any help. After publicly advertising the service, almost immediately we experienced an unprecedented level of demand for the service receiving requests for support from Bradford council, Citizens Advice Bureau, community support workers, NHS hospital staff and various other charities and local organisations just to name a few.

It has only been possible to deliver this service with the help of our dedicated volunteers who have selflessly been working on the frontline around the clock, 7 days a week and going out of their way to help people at short notice.

Testimonials:

“He has asked me to pass on his heartfelt thanks for everything you have done for him. He is very grateful. I’m convinced that without your help and support he would have struggled massively and not been able to keep himself safe by putting himself at risk by getting his shopping himself.” (Support Worker, Bradford)

“Thank you so much for offering this help to the community. May Allāh reward you for your effort. Again thank you so much as the vulnerable in the community such as ourselves truly appreciate it” (Service user, Bradford)

“May Allāh reward you and all the volunteers for a service that was invaluable and I could not have coped without in the last 4 months. I honestly don’t think I would have managed on my own as I had to stay shielded.” (Service user, Bradford)

Thank you NHS!

During the pandemic we wanted to express our gratitude to NHS staff who have risked their own health by working on the front line of dealing with coronavirus patients. This is why gifts of pizzas and boxes of Asian sweets along with a beautifully handcrafted card was presented to Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI). They were very touched by this kind gesture with one Nurse saying that she “felt like crying!”

Volunteering

We are actively seeking to help people find long term solutions to their problems. This is why, if you are passionate about helping others or have some experience or expertise that you can share by sparing a bit of time on a Sunday afternoon, then we’d love to hear from you.
