The fraud triangle framework is often used to demonstrate the reasons why an individual may decide to commit dishonest conduct. The three elements, when joined together, could indicate an increased motivation to commit dishonest conduct which, if not identified early, may lead to damaging repercussions. Thanks as always for your support and kind words Howard Rawstron!
All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) with Cifas front and centre. A great way to spend the early evening having the pleasure of attending the APPG Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax which covered fraud and also focused on the launch of the Cifas Fraud Pledges 2024. It's was great see familiar and new faces, some I've not seen in person for a while, all there to show a united position in relation to the fraud issue. A great panel that included (in order of the picture) Mike Haley, Simon Fell, Dame Margaret Hodge and Emily Thornberry. The panel cover a great deal of ground from the epidemic we are currently in re fraud, the law enforcement response (or lack there of), the UK Fraud Strategy, international dynamics of fraud, investment required, the relaunch of action fraud..... I could go on. The passion from all those on the panel was palatable and shows that fraud is a topic that crosses party boundaries. A bit like the banks where we see fraud as largely a non competitive topic. The discussion also touched on scam farms overseas, masking phone number and victim support. But the front and centre was those Cifas pledges. Look on X and LinkedIn and you will know what I mean. As ever these events need a great deal of organisation to ensure they pass smoothly. Big call out to Helena Wood and Corinne Gladstone as well as I'm sure many others. So as a reminder here are the pledges. 1) Provide cross government leadership in the response to Fraud 2) Improve the policing response to Fraud 3) Enhance support to victims of Fraud 4) Make the criminal justice response fit for tackling 21st century Fraud 5) Require social media and online platforms to join the multi-sector response to Fraud Questions touched on Whistleblowing, Victim Support, Data Sharing and many more topics. One of the main takeaways for me was 'are we really challenging ourselves enough in what we are proposing to do'? Maybe it's one step at a time but steps have different strides. We need to adopt the long leg stride and make significant steps each move along the way. #economiccrime #financialcrime #fraud #scams #corruption #whistleblowing #cifas #appg #uk

Yesterday our CEO, Mike Haley and our Director of Public Policy Helena Wood delivered our #FraudPledges24 to No 10 to inform government of our views on the next generation of necessary fraud reforms. We then launched the #FraudPledges24 at a parliamentary event in conjunction with the APPG on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax with speakers Simon Fell Emily Thornberry, our CEO Mike Haley, and chaired by Dame Margaret Hodge. But this is just the start of our campaign to push for further fraud reforms to tackle the UK’s fraud epidemic. Stay tuned for further content and campaigning on this issue as we approach #GE24. For this year’s Learning at Work Week (13-19 May), our Director of Learning, Rachael Tiffen PGCert., discusses the many benefits that fraud prevention training can bring to organisations who want to protect their workforces. Through effective training, these employers are not only embracing strong governance, but they’re providing upskilling opportunities to further develop their workforce and are more likely to build an anti-fraud culture, long-term, unlike any other. Read more of Rachael’s expert insights and discover which Academy and Digital Learning options suit your business’s fight against fraud and financial crime. https://lnkd.in/ejwPp3yw #LearningAtWorkWeek #LearningAndDevelopment #Training #FraudPrevention #FraudPreventionTraining #FraudAwareness #DigitalLearning

Do you think it’s ‘reasonable’ if a consumer who was halfway through their car hire purchase agreement and still owed money, sold the vehicle privately and continued to make repayments to the finance company? Nearly a quarter (24%) of those we surveyed did. However, the above is an example of first party fraud. Stephen Dalton, MA, CertCII, Director of Intelligence at Cifas, has penned an article for the Finance & Leasing Association on why people might still feel this type of crime is ‘victimless’. “The fact that the private sector has felt it necessary to step in to back-fill the fraud policing budget speaks to decades of under-investment by government in tackling fraud against businesses and a piecemeal approach to funding generally. “We call on the government to fill this void by creating a proper ring-fenced national fraud policing budget in the next spending review.” Our CEO, Mike Haley, recently contributed to City AM's article on policing resources to fight fraud.
