Exciting weekend for us at Nuffield Health, as Wes Streeting MP announced Labour's plan to work alongside Nuffield Health to support the people who care for us day in and day out: our incredible NHS staff.    Last year we helped almost 10,000 people living with chronic pain conditions through our free-to-access Joint Pain Programme - with the outcomes showing how effective supported, low-impact exercise, led by our incredible Rehabilitation Specialist personal trainers, can be. If there is a new Labour government, we will work together to unlock an additional 4,000 spaces - wholly funded by Nuffield Health, to create a new pathway for NHS staff suffering from MSK conditions.    It's fantastic to see Labour make this commitment to working with organisations like Nuffield Health, pushing innovative programmes to help build a healthier nation.    Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/ecbE_YYw    #healthcareheroes #SupportingNHS #healthiernation

Today, Steve Gray has announced is he retiring as CEO of Nuffield Health, with current Bupa UK Insurance CEO Alex Perry, set to succeed him later this year. During Steve’s tenure, Nuffield Health has significantly expanded its reach and services by growing its network of fitness and wellbeing centres, as well as establishing a network of hospitals in London to deliver its connected health ambitions. At the same time the Charity has delivered free-to-access health and wellbeing initiatives that have been developed for those who are most in need of support.  Natalie-Jane Macdonald, Chair of the Board of Governors, Nuffield Health said: “Steve has led the organisation with integrity and passion and successfully championed our purpose to support people and communities across the UK, including those with the greatest health needs. Under Steve’s leadership, the Charity has doubled the number of people we support every year through our health and wellbeing services. He has steered the Charity through the pandemic, one of the most challenging periods of the organisation’s history, ensuring we not only supported the NHS’s COVID-19 response, but looked after our people, our beneficiaries and assured the financial sustainability of the Charity. I would like to thank him for all that he has done and continues to do for the Charity through the transition period. “We are thrilled to welcome Alex to the Nuffield Health team later this year, as our new CEO. With his proven track record in delivering exceptional healthcare services, alongside his experience of leading transformation and strong commitment to customer satisfaction, we are confident that the Charity will thrive under his leadership and continue to have a meaningful impact on the health and wellbeing of communities across the UK.” For more information: https://lnkd.in/eDQvhjmK #buildingahealthiernation

64% of disabled teenage girls don't engage in sport or exercise regularly, and this needs to change.    We've been working on a collaborative research project with Access Sport, the The Sweaty Betty Foundation and Women in Sport, to shed light on the untold struggles of disabled teenage girls when accessing sport and exercise.    At the launch of the research at our Barbican Support Centre, our Charity and Medical Director, Dr Davina Deniszczyc said:    "This research provides valuable data to help us understand and identify the barriers teenage girls and disabled teenage girls face when accessing physical activity and sport.     "Critically, we need deeper insight into the experiences disabled girls face to ensure they aren’t excluded or miss out on all the benefits that sport and physical activity brings.    "Our ambition is that this data and these valuable partnerships will help build more inclusive programmes and initiatives that will improve the health of disabled girls and allow them to be more active."   Read the full report, visit Access Sport's website:

Today is National ODP (Operating Department Practitioner) Day and we are celebrating by highlighting the valuable work of our Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) across our hospitals. They are vital to the smooth running of operating departments, working alongside anaesthetists, consultant surgeons, theatre nurses, and healthcare assistants to ensure every procedure is safe and successful. In this short video, Kate Stables from our Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital team talks about the important role that ODPs play within clinical teams. Kate also reflects on her career journey and her leading sustainable healthcare project in our Green Healthcare Leadership Programme of moving to a reusable laryngoscope handle which reduced clinical waste: https://lnkd.in/esXKiwQc #NationalODPDay2024 #sustainablehealth #Buildingahealthiernation

For #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, this year's theme is: moving more for our mental health.   We know from our Healthier Nation Index that there's a close relationship between movement and mental health. It can be particularly tricky to fit physical activity into our working lives, but it can help to support our mental health and productivity when we do:   💡 56% of people reported that they have gone into work despite poor mental health   💡 64% of Brits say they are less productive at work if they are in a poor mental state   💡 Nearly half (45.7%) of people said that lack of time due to work acted as a barrier to physical activity   In a recent article for HR Grapevine, our Mental Health Prevention Lead Lisa Gunn encourages employers to lean into the fact that people are becoming more aware of the benefits of exercise on overall wellbeing, and support them to look after their mental and physical health: https://lnkd.in/ey_kMFHX   Read more from Lisa on why movement can be so beneficial for our wellbeing below:

In today’s series of people stories, we spoke to Zaynah Ali, Emotional Wellbeing Therapist and Ceyon Humes-Dixon, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner.   We asked Zaynah to tell us about the team she works in…   “The nicest bunch of people, the team is incredibly helpful and supportive. I lost my mother last month and the support I have received has been the best, particularly from my supervisor and line manager. Working within mental health is incredibly rewarding and something personal to me. I have also found that during my short time here I am already progressing as a therapist through my 1:1 supervision.”   Cyon chose to work at Nuffield Health because…   “I’m extremely passionate about patient care and I had heard that Nuffield Health provide excellent patient care. Also, the values of Nuffield Health align with my own beliefs and values, and I believed that the organisation would provide the opportunity to develop, grow and make a meaningful contribution to those experiencing difficulties day-to-day.”   Continue reading Zaynah https://lnkd.in/eJbE6XXf and Ceyon’s story https://lnkd.in/e8AWdvdF   At Nuffield Health, our people are transforming experiences for our patients, members and customers. We are proud to be supporting The Football Association as they launch 'The Greater Game’. This is an incredible campaign which uses the power of football to inspire 12-16-year-olds, and their families, to improve their health and wellbeing by making at least one extra healthier action per week. As a co-creator we've been central to the grassroots programme, which focuses on four key elements: moving well; thinking well; and sleeping well, with fellow founding partner, M&S Food focusing on eating well.    Speaking about the launch, our Medical and Charity Director, Davina Deniszczyc, said: “We recently released our Healthier Nation Index which highlights that the younger generation is disadvantaged when it comes to their health, and we recognise that we need to do more to keep them active for both their physical and mental health.    "We’re proud to partner with The FA and we’ve worked closely together to deliver this important initiative to get young people fit and healthy. We’re fully committed to unblocking the barriers that young people face, and we’re hoping The Greater Game will educate and inspire them to enjoy movement.” Find out how to get involved in The Greater Game here: https://lnkd.in/ec2kxhhx
